April, I can't speak for Traci but can say the only way for her/us to get a good evaulation of any situation is with a lot of questions.

There is never a scolding tone with Traci's or anyone's response (unless the initial poster admits to flat out moronic behavior) which is NOT your case. Please understand that as concerned as you were seeking answers, we are moreso here because we're just on the other side of the PC, not physically there to help.

My initial question would be if you brought the cat home 3 weeks ago, why hasn't she been in to the vet yet. I understand work, kids and other responsibilities all need to be juggled and scheduled but it's what I personally would have done first thing bringing home a new pet regardless if it's from a farm, shelter, my friend's yard, etc.

All that aside, I hope it's just a heat cycle and she checks out fine otherwise at her exam. I remember the time my first save went into heat. I wasn't that well "cat versed" yet and locked myself in another room out of fear. She hadn't been spayed yet because she was at death's door when I found her outside and took a few months to recover.

Please post back after the visit Tuesday and let us know how it all went.

Just curious to see what the vet said about kitty's behavior and overall visit.

Turns out she's a happy & healthy little 1 year old kitty! She had a mild case of ear mites, got the meds for that, she went in yesterday morning to get her fixed, they said she did great & we'll have her home Monday morning. Thank you for asking, things are hectic with twins around the house, I don't have much time to get online & post, but thank you for reminding me. She was in heat, no other health issues, so glad & thankful that this is over with & no need to worry. My boys were so happy when she back to her normal self after being in heat for 4 days. Thank you again for all of your insightful words & help, it is really appreciated!!

Good to hear a heat cycle was all it was! And they are sure she's out of it before spaying her right? Sorry to hear about the ear mites but glad it's only a mild case. One of my rescues had a bad case; when I found her, both sides of her head had bloody scratches from where she constantly pawed at herself.

Does kitty have a name yet?

Yes, they wanted to wait & make sure so that's why they had it done on Friday. Our last cat had earmites that we adopted from the shelter, they were really bad, so we're lucky to catch this early on. Yes, her name is Molly, my boys named her after one of their trains from Thomas & Friends lol

Awwww one of my girls is Molly too and yes, I'm familiar with the character from Thomas & Friends. My nephew is big into the show. :)

I'm curious why she was spayed on Friday, but not coming home until Monday? This doesn't require 3 days in the hospital.

They're not open on the weekends. She didn't have her surgery until mid-afternoon and close @ 5. When we called to check on her she was just coming out of anesthesia, wasn't completly alert by the time they were closing up and wanted her to stay

Are they not open to the public on the weekends or completely shut down? Does staff go in over the weekend to check on them?

They are only open from 8am-9am on Sundays for emergencies only, & yes someone comes in 3X a day to water/feed/walk/etc the cats & dogs. I used to work for them so I have a very good idea what they do which makes me feel a lot better about the situation
