My "Birthday Boy" is failing

Post by k9Karen »

Mickey will be 16 tomorrow - that is if he makes it.

He woke me up at 3am to go out. Very unusual for him or any of my dogs, but I didn't really think anything about it. About a 1/2 hour later, he began to throw up. I didn't really think anything about that either - not common, but not that unusual. He threw up about 4 times before 6am, when I normally get up. I thought, "I've been through this before, he'll be fine as soon as he eats". I gave him a very small breakfast, just in case, which he "lost" about 30 minutes later. I gave him some chicken broth, which seemed to sit well, then - well, you know. He's had a good bit of water during the day, with no problem, so I tried to give him a small dinner - no luck, it's "gone" too. So far, though, he's kept down some boiled potatoes for about an hour, so maybe all will be OK at least this time. It's so hard when they get this old.

Anyway, on top of all this, I wanted to load his pictures for everyone to see on his birthday, and seemesmile.com is down (again). I'm feeling pretty miserable right now - thanks for listening

k9Karen, best birthday wishes to Mickey and to you!...

Post by Mary Plummer »

I hope this is simply a case of him snacking on something not too good for him in the yard! 16 is a great age for Mickey to have reached, and I sure hope Mr. Blue gives me that long, too. I wish so much that we knew some way to slow down their aging!

Anyway, here's the best, from Mr. Blue and I, for both of you on Mickey's special day!!

k9Karen, I realized I didn't say anything very comforting...

Post by Mary Plummer »

...so I thought I'd add this. I had a thought sort of come out of nowhere when I was walking Mr. Blue last night. I was watching him really sniffing hard at where one of the Evil Demon rabbits must have been, and I just had this feeling that I had really been blessed with a gift with Mr. Blue. I don't know why I had that thought, but it was followed by my thinking (and of course telling Mr. Blue) that I hoped I had him for a really long time, but any time with him was still a gift to me, and one that I treasured. I don't know that this is at all comforting, either, but I wanted to share it with you. All my thoughts and prayeres for Mickey!

Very sorry to hear Mickey isn't feeling well, Karen. Hope it's a minor problem and that he bounces back A-OK. Happy Birthday to Mickey along with my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks guys! I knew I could count on you for some good thoughts, hopes and prayers.

So far, so good, the potatoes have stayed where they're supposed to. I just gave him some more. He has a great appetite - he's really hungry. But he definitely isn't himself. He still manages to give an annoyed bark to Angel on occassion, but he really seems weak. He does like to snack on weeds in the yard, and I caught him eating some this morning after he got sick. With any luck, that's all that's wrong and he'll be fine in the morning. It's going to be a long night.

Going to try to post the pictures again.

I am so very sorry to hear he is ailing... something about these episodes happening at a time otherwise significant makes them harder to take. Have courage. My thoughts are with you.
