Older son got a young Egyptian Mau cat and it turns out to

have coccsidiosis. What would you reccommend for medication?

Beautiful smoke with spots girl.

Assuming he's taken her to the vet?

Treat with Albon, from the vet.

If he has other cats, he'll have to be sure to disinfect contact surfaces daily (a 1:32 solution of bleach:water). Thoroughly cleaning and rinsing litterboxes on a daily basis until a subsequent fecal float tests negative, is paramount.

Watch and monitor her closely for any other signs of health problems, since she may have come from a contaminated environment and if she was transported from another location, she's probably very stressed and immune function distressed. (the coccidia most likely aquired from a contaminated cattery/shelter/etc). Get her fully examined, tested for FELV/FIV etc at the vet and after the Albon treatment is done and successful, consider deworming.

Yes, he has had her to the vet 3 or 4 times. She seems fine except
for the runs. She tested positive for coccidiosa. She has been on
2 meds now and still runny.

Coccidia can take a long time to eradicate - follow treatment plan (albon), and make sure she's getting a good diet (ask vet about temporary use of Feline I/D) or acidophilus, or some type of additional fiber to help bulk the stools, but please, vet direction first! (you don't want to make it worse by causing constipation by inappropriate use of fiber)

Traci dear,

The kitty is on Albon, but I understand she needs something to

keep the flora in her tummy going. What do you suggest?

Pro Pectalin?

Ask vet about Feline Fortiflora, or, something with Lactobacillus acidophilus in it, like Proviable (by Nutramaxx Labs) - I wouldn't recommend anything else.

If you choose to use the Proviable, choose the paste type (it's easier and already dosed for you) but it can only be used for 2 or 3 days, and one should wait 1 or two hours after the Albon is given before giving the Proviable.

Thank you so much for the update, Mou, I'm so happy to hear she's doing well, she must have been through so much!

Btw, did a subsequent fecal test confirm no presence of coccidia?
