It's ok. It's been going on for years and I have let some things go, since I don't like confrontation, trouble, most of it has been mild. He has a drinking problem, a mental health problem, and his behavior is erratic and unpredictable. Recently, he has been violating noise ordinances, won't respond to me, the other neighbors, barely the cops. When he gets in trouble, he drives down the street, drunk (drunk drivers are a sore spot with me). He gets drunk, calls me on the phone, or comes over to my deck and attempts to argue or is beligerent, or eggs on the SO, despite our warnings and the cops' warnings he is not to enter our property. We call the cops each time, but they can only do so much with warnings. With a restraining order, I can do something, and I can prevent the SO from doing something stupid (we've both had enough).
His behavior of late has me concerned, and I don't exactly feel safe since the SO leaves for work in the wee hours of the morning and is gone for a great deal of the time. I do have firearms for protection but I'm getting a new one. I hate guns, and can't fathom hurting anyone, but I'll be damned if he thinks he's going to threaten my family.
He did get help once. Maybe twice. Didn't last long. All he had to do was be cool, leave me alone, it didn't have to come to this.

Sad situation. Sorry you're having to go thru all that. Do be careful. Sounds like he reallyneeds some help. He's probably either bi-polar or is a veteran suffering from PTSD. If he violates the restraining order, maybe the court system will see that he gets it (one way or the other).

If he violates the order once, he goes to jail and pays a fine. More than that, my guess is jail time. He's getting all kinds of state/gov assistance so I can't imagine he can pay fines. I don't want him to go to jail, and I don't want him doing stupid things because of his own actions. But, if he threatens me or my family, I can't let that go.
Of course, he has three cats (that I have helped take care of over the years, much of it at my own expense because I'm so nice). I worry about them constantly.

All I gotta say about that is I'm glad that Michigan has castle laws and I'm glad I know every detail of my rights, and their boundaries, provided by them. I know exactly what lengths I can AND WILL go to if my family requires protection.

When I lived in Tucson...I had a 12 gauge and I knew how to use it...I regularly went to the desert to pop off cans from various distances...LOL....of course I would not keep a loaded gun in the house, but it rested alongside right underneath the bed with the 3 legal limit of shells on the headboard....I was single...no kids...I could grab them and load in the dark in a flash if need be....

And if anyone ever entered my home...yeah, I would be scared...angry...p***ed off....you name it...but that gun would be in their face..

I guess I can't complain to much about my idiot neighbors who live about 1/4 mile away as the crow flies....of course they were running a meth lab over there at one time. No more though, the guy was arrested and is out, but things have calmed down. We never had any really one on one issues with them. They were loud, and shooting guns a lot. And they had/have horses on the property that are always getting out of the "fence" which isn't a proper fence at all since some of the posts are just old tree branches stuck in the ground. Sad part is animal control can't and won't do anything.
I hope things work out smoothly for you Traci...wish there was something we could all do about idiot "owners" who don't care about their animals. As for me, I don't own my animals, they are my companions and I am their people

slvr, we too have castle doctrine laws, I'm not too worried about that.
Tambrey, we have shotguns, but unloaded and hidden away, not much help when you need something in a split second. Also, they are too bulky for some types of scenarios.
Tina, well said
Tuxedo kitten is feeling a bit better, I can see his wounds starting to granulate already, it's slow process and a great deal of healing to do, but he's a trooper and such a sweetie. This morning, he was sleeping in the sink
