Karen,

Thank you for asking. She is almost normal. I will take her in on
this coming monday for her bloodwork. The last check was very good.

She will always, we think, be on meds for this, but lower doses may
be called for.

I thank everyone for pulling for her, or saying prayers for her.
I was so scared.

Mou, thrombocytopenia is always scary, mainly because we rarely ever know what causes it. Although many recovered cats and dogs usually don't have a reoccurance, some do, so watch your baby very carefully at all times. The first sign is pale mucous membranes (look at gums, skin color inside of ears, under the eyelids of eyes, even belly area). Other signs are refusal to eat, lethargy, sometimes fever activity, vomiting, hiding/withdrawal, cold to the touch, blood in vomit or stool.

The pred if necessary, should be dosed low, in tapered amounts, of short courses. It is not always a 24/7/365 thing, we generally like to give them a long break when possible, but always recommend yearly or bi-annual blood profiles to monitor for immunosuppression or secondary infections etc. She may not even need it again, or too much in the future, just keep an eye on her and her lab values periodically.

I'm thrilled to hear your baby is recovering, this is the best news of all!

Thank you Traci.

I will keep a close eye on her for sure. She is getting 5mg of
pred every other day right now. We will see how it goes on
monday and maybe we can take it down a notch then. She is
just doing so well that I am scared it is a fluke. We took a
short, 4 day, trip to Walla Walla, WA and over to the Wallowas
last week and she had a ball. I was afraid if she sneezed!!
Some day I am coming your direction.

Hugs,
Donna

Hello all,

Jenni had her blood workup yesterday and all is in the middle

of the normal range now with her red blood cells and platelets!!

I was so excited. I know she will never be out of danger of a

relapse, but for now she is a happy little sweet girl.

That's extremely good news. I'm so happy for both of you. :D

Well, I am almost afraid to say anything, but Jenni is doing

just fine so far. I take her in every 6 weeks at this point

for a blood check, and so far it is perfect. I still worry if

she isn't spunky ALL THE TIME, but that is what Moms

do.

What wonderful news, Mou!!

Hang in there, you're doing all the right things, keep a close eye on her, and hopefully this was a one-time only thing.
