no...there are no low-cost or TNR programs around here...the humane society and animal control have tried and the vets in the area are not interested in volunteering thier time one weekend a month

Yes...same neighbor...he says he puts food out in the shed across the street....he sstill owns that...but the cats have no idea the food is there...

And I have asked him to help pay for ONE spay a MONTH..$75.00 at our local vet...right now he is filing bankruptcy so I guess he cannot put out money for stuff like that and sitll be able to file....

I even posted many of them on my facebook the other night....pictures...and I ahve FRIENDS ONLY able to view my profile...asking if any of them want cats/kittens or have friends that do...let me know....and heck...if they cannot but want to donate for a spay, I will send vet info to them!!

This is getting rediculous...I worked for YEARS to get down to TWO females to take care of this summer...then BAM...I am going thru a bag of food every 3.5 days!

Not trying to be funny, but can you afford to take out a personal loan from your bank? (i.e., signature loan, you don't have to tell them what it's for, or, a home-equity, home-improvement loan) Rates seem to be fairly low right now, you could have small monthly payments, and depending on the size of the loan, a locked in rate, and a few years to pay it off. Plus, if you pay on time each month, this increases your credit rating.

What food are you buying? What size bags?

Personally, the man and his wife should be held responsible for the cats that aren't yours. I doubt he's feeding any cats in the shed, or the food would be found and eaten in minutes every single day. That, or he's feeding crap that no other animal will even eat, including mice!

Most states and cities have ordinances or abandonment laws in the animal welfare statutes. They should both be charged with abandonment. Only problem is, the cats may be rounded up by animal control and their fate would not be good.

So how does your local humane society deal with things like this? No animal hoarders they've ever had to help prosecute? No community fundraisers for excess pets in any kind of situation? Are they relying soley on donations for spaying/neutering the pets in their care or???

Tambrey...you have gone above and beyond what most people would do to help these cats...and probably sacrificing things you could have to feed them. I don't have a solution. Just wanted to tell you I admire you.

Have you asked the local HS for help? Any other resources in the area you might not be aware of?

As for pet food, check online for current coupons you can print and use. Remember too that sometimes, canned food is on sale and nice to mix with dry to extend the food. If you have a local warehouse (that distributes to grocery stores), sometimes they have damaged bags and may sell them cheap. Find out where the local HS gets their food, most non-profit shelters can sign up with major pet food manufacturers for discounted pet foods and sometimes, the same shelter can offer some of the food to local folks needing help.

Thanks Traci...I will check on that for the food...I may check the local feed stores also....it may not be the best food...but better than nothing :(

I do NOT want to call the HS if only a LAST resort because they will come take them and lock them in cages...then euthanize them

Well, I could rant all day, but the point of having a local HS is for cases just like this. Not necessarily to confiscate animals, but to actually help, you know, by providing resources, getting in touch with those resources, providing aid to the community when needed, etc. The sad thing is, many local HS are simply inundated with pets and aren't helpful to the community at all.

No, I do not encourage you to bring in the HS on this one, just suggested finding out if they could aid in providing food. Call anonymously and ask if they have a sort of food bank for pets available, and how to go about getting it.

How about your friends and neighbors, would they be willing to help chip in for food? How about calling the nasty wife and telling her she's responsible! (that's a rant, not necessarily a suggestion).

The little black one with the white fur around its eyes and mouth traveled across the Rainbow Bridge lastnight

It was not developing and growing like the other two...I even tried bottle feeding and syringe feeding...it was just very tiny and could not get started with life.....

Their Mom...Pretty....did not even seem to be pregnant all that long...I am thinking they were a bit premature...so we'll see how the other two fare....

I have been giving her some extra KMR to help with milk production...but elsewise she is a fantastic mamma to her babies....rarely leaves them and when she does just long enough to go bathroom or get food and drink...I put an extra water bowl right outside her box also....
If they cry or stir...she darts right back up into the box with them...

Rest easy little Clown....go find Shiloh and Nermel....our friend's 6 week old kitten who died for no apparent reason yesterday morning as well...
