And here's the FDA link that properly explains the symptoms of thiamine deficiency (which Wellness failed to do on their website):

Traci...Wellness did not fail to put the symptoms on their website. The FDA text is the actual press release from Wellness itself and it is readily available on their website.

I don't remember seeing that link before (yes, I checked earlier). It should be the first one they link. I always try to post the FDA links because not all manufacturers bother to post in-depth information (or others, as you know, outright deny it).

PURINA VETERINARY FORMULA OM RECALLED:

Nestlé Purina Voluntarily Recalls Single Lot of Therapeutic Canned Cat Food Due to A Low Level of Thiamine (Vitamin B1)

St. Louis, Missouri, May 11, 2012 . . . Nestlé Purina PetCare (NPP) is voluntarily recalling one specific lot of its Purina Veterinary Diets® OM Overweight Management canned cat food, available through veterinarians in the U.S. and Canada. This precautionary measure is being taken in response to one consumer complaint received by FDA. Analytical testing of the product sample by FDA indicated a low level of thiamine (Vitamin B1). Purina has received no other complaints of thiamine-related or any other health issues related to this product.

Only cans with the following “Best By” date and production code shown are included in this voluntary recall:
Product Name Can Size "Best By" Date & Production Code* Bag UPC Code
Purina Veterinary Diets® OM (Overweight Management) Feline Formula 5.5 oz. JUN 2013 11721159 38100 - 13810

*“Best By” Date and Production Code are found on the bottom of the can.
Cats fed this affected lot exclusively for several weeks may be at risk for developing a thiamine deficiency. Thiamine is essential for cats. Symptoms of deficiency displayed by an affected cat can be gastrointestinal or neurological in nature. Early signs of thiamine deficiency may include decreased appetite, salivation, vomiting and weight loss. In advanced cases, neurological signs can develop, which may include ventriflexion (bending towards the floor) of the neck, wobbly walking, falling, circling and seizures. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your cat is displaying any of these signs. If treated promptly, thiamine deficiency is typically reversible.

This product was distributed to veterinary clinics between June, 2011 and May, 2012 throughout the U.S. and Canada. The product is not sold in retail stores.

No additional Purina cat or dog products are involved in this voluntary recall. No other Purina Veterinary Diets® products are involved, and only Purina Veterinary Diets® OM canned cat food which match the “Best By” dates and production code above are included in this recall.

Consumers who have purchased Purina Veterinary Diets® OM canned cat food cans with these specific “Best By” Date and Production Codes should discontinue feeding the product, and discard it.

At Nestlé Purina PetCare, the safety and efficacy of our products are our top priority. We apologize for any inconvenience due to this voluntary recall. For further information or to obtain a product refund, please contact Nestlé Purina as follows:

Admin Note: Regarding the current Diamond Pet Food Recalls - the following may be conjecture until more information comes forth, but worth keeping an eye on ...Note that the article does not mention the previous Kirkland brand recalled cat foods early this month, even though they were recalled and noted on Diamond's website or the FDA/CVM website.
--------------------------

Cats potentially at risk after Diamond Pet Foods dog food recall
Following recent recalls, an article looks into the safety of other cat foods manufactured at Diamond's South Carolina, USA, plant...

Tuesday, May 22, 2012
After recalling one batch of Diamond Naturals dry dog food on April 6 for possible Salmonella contamination, Diamond Pet Foods and other brands manufactured at its plant have expanded the recall on numerous occasions, Diamond endured a week-long inspection of its Gaston, South Carolina, USA, by the US Food and Drug Administration, which found various safety issues, and most recently acknowledged that cats are also at risk.

According to a recent article, Diamond Pet Foods has done little to call special attention to the expansion of its dry dog food recalls to include a cat food that was also manufactured at the plant.

There is no specific information on which brands and batches of cat food may be affected by the recalls, though consumers may check the cat food bag's product code to find where it was made.

Recently, the Calgary Herald in Alberta, Canada, reported that two cats in a Montreal animal shelter died and another is ill after eating Diamond Pet Foods products. Also in Quebec, another person has been reported with a case of Salmonella, bringing the total number of cases to 16 in the United States and Canada caused by handling the petfood, the article says.

“The investigation is open and pending so we are limited in the information we can release to the public,” Food and Drug Administration spokeswoman, Laura Alvey, wrote via e-mail. "Diamond voluntarily shut down their facility to clean (including the two lines where the contaminated product was made) and to implement additional procedures.”
