Re: ALL POSTS RE: PET FOOD RECALL GO HERE IN THIS THREAD
I could be mistaken, but I believe that recall was announced this spring or sometime about then. Also, many chinese-made toothpastes were recalled at that time, human toothpastes etc, those brands making up a large percentage of products found at discount stores, cheap brands, etc.

Yet another Hartz recall (NOT related to the food recall)
Another reason, amoung infinate number of reasons, to AVOID Hartz.Hartz Recalls Vitamin Care for Cats
Hartz Mountain Corp. is recalling a second lot of Hartz Vitamin Care for Cats due to concerns of Salmonella contamination. (Photo courtesy of Hartz Mountain Corp.)
The Hartz Mountain Corp. of Secaucus, N.J., is voluntarily recalling a second specific lot of Hartz Vitamin Care for Cats due to concerns that bottles within the lot may have been potentially contaminated with Salmonella.
The product involved is 739 bottles of Hartz Vitamin Care for Cats, lot code SZ 22771, UPC number 32700-97701.
Recent sampling conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration detected the presence of Salmonella, although it had not been detected under normal testing by Hartz and manufacturer UFAC (USA) Inc.
Hartz recalled a specific lot code of the vitamins late last year due to similar concerns. Both lot codes were manufactured by UFAC in 2007, and were removed from distribution last November. However, bottles from the second lot had been shipped to customers before it was removed from distribution.
At press time, the company had not received any reports of animals or humans becoming ill.
Hartz is offering reimbursement for purchased products. For details, contact Hartz at 800-275-1414. <HOME>

Recall: Iams ProActive Health Cat, Kitten Food (canned)
P&G Issues Limited Recall of Iams ProActive Health Cat Food
Posted: Thursday, June 10, 2010, 12:04 p.m., EDT
Veterinary Practice News
P&G Issues Limited Recall of Iams ProActive Health Cat FoodThe Procter & Gamble Co. has issued a voluntary recall of certain lots of its Iams canned cat food due to concerns of low thiamine levels.
The Cincinnati-based company is recalling all varieties of its Iams ProActive Health canned cat and kitten food in 3- and 5.5-ounce cans with “Best if Fed By” dates ranging from 09/2011 to 06/2012 printed on the bottom. The recall is limited to North America.
P&G called the voluntary recall a precautionary measure. Diagnostic testing indicated that the food may contain insufficient levels of thiamine (vitamin B1), P&G reported. Cats that were fed these canned products as their only food are at greater risk for developing signs of thiamine deficiency, according to the company.
Early signs of thiamine deficiency may include loss of appetite, salivation, vomiting and weight loss. In advanced cases, signs may include ventroflexion (downward curving) of the neck, wobbly gait, falling, circling and seizures. Cat owners are advised to contact their veterinarian immediately if their pet is displaying any of these signs.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled cat food should discard it. For further information or a product refund, call P&G at 877-340-8826, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. EDT

Feline’s Pride Recalls Chicken Formula Cat Food
Thursday, July 1, 2010, 5:40 p.m. EDT
VeterinaryPracticeNews
Feline’s Pride Recalls Chicken Formula Cat FoodFeline Pride’s of Buffalo, N.Y., has issued a voluntary nationwide recall of its natural chicken formula raw food for cats and kittens because of concerns of salmonella contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The recalled product, produced June 10, was packaged in 2½-pound uncoded plastic containers and sold frozen to consumers. Once thawed, the pet food has a shelf life of about one week.
The company said the recall affects orders placed and shipped June 10 through June 17.
Feline’s Pride and the FDA are working to determine the source of the problem. Neither Feline’s Pride nor the FDA has received reports of salmonella infection relating to the recalled product, according to the company.
Pets suffering salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some pets may have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.
Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans, according to the company. Cat owners are urged to contact their veterinarian if their pet consumed the recalled product and is exhibiting these symptoms.
Humans can become infected, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after touching the raw pet food or surfaces exposed to it, according to the company. Children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems are particularly susceptible.
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled cat food and dispose of it in a covered trash receptacle.
For more information, contact Feline’s Pride at 716-580-3096 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT Monday through Friday.

A previous post for this product was made in the Canine Health forum, since it involved only supplements for dogs. Now, the recall includes several additional products for cats.
