kitty runs like a rabbie

Post by dannape »

Hey guys,

I posted on here a few months ago, about my mom and her new kitty (snuggles) she is such a joy, and so playful and loving, but just a couple days ago, my parents noticed that when she runs across the floor, her back paws are together, almost like she's hopping, it looks just like a rabbit when she runs..it's the craziest thing...she's not hurting, not lying around, it hasn't slowed her down in the least, we have felt all around her back and her legs and she's not resistent to it at all, and it has us baffled.

Her and the pup have been becoming best friends, laying together, playing together, mom was wondering if maybe the dog got too rambuctious and hurt her somehow around her back or her legs, but like i said she's not acting weird and she actually chases him around instead of the other way around.

Any ideas??? mom is thinking of taking her in and having an x-ray done, but it seems silly since it doesn't seem to be bothering her.

Yes, absolutely get her to the vet for a complete exam and possibly an xray. She's still a young kitten so you/parents need to make absolutely certain she isn't having any growth or development problems, particularly with bone structure, and the vet will also want to rule out potential nerve issues (the latter unlikely but should be included in the list of rule-outs).

Many kittens when playing, do appear to hop like bunnies, but don't assume this is normal for every kitten/cat. Sometimes there is a problem with development, nerves, viral or bacterial infection, a sprain, nutritional deficiencies, or other problems that should NEVER go undetected, being examined by the vet.

Make an appointment immediately. Hopefully it's nothing, but it's always best to play it safe.

Thanks Traci,

I'll see them tomorrow and see how she's doing and will mention what you suggested...I last saw her on wed and it was only the 2nd day she had been doing it, it's been a couple days, hopefully i'll go out there and find out it's no longer an issue.

Will keep you posted.

Thanks again
