Please recommend a kitty litter, and a question or two
Thanks!
Thanks for the advice Susan! It's funny that you said that, because I bought some Tidy Cats scoop Crystals Blend for multiple cats today. I only have one cat but I figured if it is strong enough for several cats, it should work extra-well for only one cat. This litter looks and feels very similar to the Fresh Step so I don't think Gilbert will mind. He is not picky at all about his litter. They were using Arm and Hammer litter at the shelter. I brought him home to Feline Pine, then Scoop Away, then Fresh Step and it never phased him one bit. He has been such a perfect kitty so far, uses the litter box like a pro despite the fact that I moved the box twice within one week after I got him home. I would still like to move it again, into my office room here since it is the only room with hard wood floors. I'd rather his litter box not be on the carpet but oh well. I can't move it into the computer room because he might chew the wires and cables. But if it were not for that, it would be the ideal place for his box. Maybe when he's older.

I do keep my litter boxes away from carpet, too, but you know, you could always put a small rug underneath it. There are plenty of cheap-o rugs (washable, too) at discount stores, and that would protect your carpet. I do that, even with my boxes that are on linoleum and tile - just to keep those little pieces of litter from tracking all over the place. I'm about to break down and buy some of those little mats that say they help clean off kitties' paws when they step out of the box, since my little rugs don't catch it all. (I actually bought one of those little rechargeable hand vacs for the sole purpose of vacuuming up their areas each day!)
I'm glad your kitty is such a good kitty. You're lucky he hasn't rebelled against the changes! I'm glad things are going well. And don't worry about your husband not "loving" cats..... My husband has always considered himself a dog person, but he's grown really attached to my cats. He has given them all funny nicknames, and those silly cats answer to their nicknames as well as they do to their real names!! My mom asked my husband the other day if he "minded" all the cats, and he said, "I like them - they're really fun and entertaining." That was it - no side comments about wishing one was a dog, or anything like that! (I have succeeded in converting another dog person! LOL)
