Traci...more help on Alf.
Traci...more help on Alf.
More on Alf. This afternoon my wife and I took him back to the vet because of his being so lethargic. While there his eyelids were coming up like he was sick. His temp shot up to over 107. He's there now having tests run. Traci do you know what this could be?
Re: Traci...more help on Alf.
It sounds like a bacterial infection, possibly sepsis, which is a serious internal infection, could be anywhere from vital organs to intestinal, anywhere within the abdominal or chest cavity.
Get a quick x-ray to detect any pleural effusion, if there is fluid in the cavities, need to aspirate it and test it immediately for type of fluid or infection. A CBC might show elevated white blood cells, inflammation, even dehydration, which in this urgent state, kitty needs IV fluid support immediately (also helps reduce the fever, and aids in shocky condition)
X-rays may also show some type of hemmorhage, but the CBC and platelets would also show that, so get those two done immediately (assuming your vet is on top of that right now). Again, if this is NOT an emergency facility, get kitty transfered ASAP, and again, he needs to be in stable condition before a transfer.
Sending prayers and good thoughts, hang in there...
