Well, hubby is off work today so he took Roo in since he seemed to be the worst off...vet checked his teeth, his mouth, surrounding jaw, face...pressed...poked...scraped...Roo did not pull away or yowl or anything and Vet said the teeth and gums all looked really good...
However, Roo does have a fever, hubby did not say why and did not really question the vet (like I would!), which might explain the tongue hanging out...so he got a shot of antibiotics that the vet said should work for the next 7-10 days, so no pills or drops for home to hassle with...

The vet also checked his ears, because Roo is the one with the ongoing fungal issue and ear troubles...he said his ears looked great as well...no gook, no dirt, no sign of mites or fungal irritation....just keep cleaning like we have been...

We'll keep an eye and see how he does on the antibiotics...the only other thing I can think of is an abcess of a tooth, but I know how that feels as well and pressing an abcessed tooth would cause pain!!

DeeDee....her eyes looked fine and clear lastnight when I got home, if not, I was going to wash her face with warm water to clear anything off...there was no sneezing going on and she was ornery as ever playing with the others...even to the point of chasing and batting at Ghost and Sammie  They play gentle with her and all were having a great time on the "boxing ring" on the floor (the cardboard top cover for a card table we got and I left the cardboard on the floor for them...they LOVE it...
But when I opened the canned food to feed Gypsy and Cuddles...DeeDee's left eye got puffy and watery....because each of the cats also get about half a spoon of canned food just to make them happy since the two old ladies are getting some!
I will take her in Saturday morning just to get her teeth checked and see about getting her spayed if she is big enough...and schedule that for her...

When was Roo's last bloodwork? If over a year, should get that done again.

Once cannot always visualize an abcess forming upon oral exam, especially behind the molars. That's not to say this might not be an oral infection, it could be an infection elsewhere in the body, but it IS concerning since he has a fever and was high enough to cause drooling. Did the vet check for dehydration and give sub-q fluids?

Not that my husband told me...but I know that Roo has still been drinking because my desk and the dining room table are right beside the water fountain...and I was giving him canned food as well these last couple days to make sure he was eating...and that is quite moist...he is very snuggly all the time anyways, and I have not noticed any difference in skin flexibility...he crawls right up onto my shoulder and curls up nuzzling my ears...but I will check him this evening when I get home...and ask my husband to make sure that he sees Roo drinking water...and when I feed him, I will add extra water to his food...

It has been over a year since he was seen for bloodwork, so that is not a bad idea either...to rule out anything else....and if he does need to be put under for oral issues a couple weeks down the road...we'll know about any underlying issues....

I am afraid to have one put under now since what happened to Callie...they way within that week and a half she went into renal failure like she did...I worry that it was her dental that did it :(

Tambrey, you should know: It matters not how much water consumed, or how much moisture is in canned food.....if a cat is drooling due to a high fever, the cat is losing vital fluid reserves from the body and must be compensated for loss of fluids AND electrolytes via sub-q or IV fluids. This also occurs with vomiting and diarrhea, rarely can a cat or dog compensate for those losses simply by consuming water or canned food.

aahhh...I did not think about electrolytes :(

I will try to get ahold of the vet this afternoon....they usually go out on farmcalls during the afternoon, though...and see about getting Roo in for that....
