I had posted something brief in my thread about sammie....
a friend that I grew up with in VA has 3 or 4 doxies...Elliott was showing some back discomfort after their last storm, and today became paralyzed...they got her to their local vet and as I am typing this...she just messaged that they are on the way to Goochland Emergency Center for surgery...most likey the same thing that Sammie had...a hemilaminectomy
I will keep you posted as she keeps us posted...

Re: Elliott
Please see my other post. I'm sure their surgeon will explain the necessities, prayers for Elliot's recovery.

Re: Elliott
Thanks Traci....the vet is optimistic that they caught it early enough for surgery to be successful...
I told her how vitally important it is that time is running with these injuries....not sure how far the ER center is from the vet clinic and their home...but I knnow we had a 4 hour drive one way in a snowstorm to get Sammie to Ames!!
She will probably post this afternoon....after surgery
One of her other doxies had to have surgery earlier this year...a BIG dog jumped into her yard and tore into Coco...she has recovered fine as well....so I know that Bronwyn will do the best for her furkids!!

Re: Elliott
Welll.....
This was her latest message
So now...they wait til tomorrow...unless Elliott worsens and loses feeling in her toes....I am assuming they will be checking her periodically throughout the day and night....

So at this point, I guess her disc has not yet ruptured...right now Elliott is where Sammie was the end of January 2006...and we still ended up doing surgery....We just got back and they want to observe her overnight before doing anything as drastic as surgery. If she can still feel her toes in the morning, then they say perhaps we can just keep her in the crate until it heals itself

Re: Elliott
You said she was paralyzed, that is not indicative of this healing itself.
Are messages getting crossed or is the vet competent enough to recognize a disc injury?

Re: Elliott
I think B panicked this morning with the loss of hind leg functions and sent out a message that Elliott was paralyzed and they were on the way to their vet....after being seen by her regular vet then sent to the critical care vet and being tested there....she does have feeling and some movement in her legs and toes still, so the doctor at the critical care clinic has opted to wait until tomorrow to see how she is doing then
