at the moment I am typing this....a friend just messaged me from her Blackberry via facebook asking advice on trying to catch an injured cat in a parking lot....she did not say what is wrong...but send up a prayer for the kitty....that she can safely catch and transport it....and that it is not injured too badly
I am thankful she is attempting to catch and help it....
I told her to get her carrier....and a can of fishy smelly canned food to try to tempt it over to her...and hopefully how to gently get it to the ground and lift it up and into the carrier to transport....
This is my friend that has Ellie....the little mini kitty with the "cerebral palsy"
Injured Cat
Re: Injured Cat
This was her latest message to me
poor thing
GRRRRRR.....I suggested she get a have-a-heart trap from somewhere and try that way....set it out and check it often....keep going back and setting food out in hopes she will come to them....We think that it got hit by a car and I definitely think it has frostbite on its paws. The back right leg is obviously broken. I put my leftover olive garden pasta with shrimp in it and it ate the shrimp. We tried to go slow sneak up on it surround all sides of the cars she was hiding under and nothing worked. We finally callled animal control and the doofus ran after it so we ended up leaving after we couldn't find it.
poor thing
Re: Injured Cat
Yes, get the trap, cover it with a tarp to protect from wind/snow, use tuna or even sardines in oil (NOT mustard sauce), salmon, or fried chicken.
Try to get someone to help and to help monitor, in this weather, if kitty is trapped in the trap, someone needs to be monitoring at all times so she is not left in freezing wind, rain, ice, snow.
If the leg is broken, she can't run too fast, but better for animal control NOT to be involved, rather the lady do this herself with help from a like-minded individual and as quietly, calmly as possible.
If there is snow on the ground, follow tracks!!

Re: Injured Cat
Thanks Traci....I copied your message and gave it to her....I work with her too....
She said she went back out lastnight around 11:30 and wandered around in hopes of finding her and catching her....looked for tracks then and no sign of her...she said she did look well fed and groomed and had a collar on, so hopefully an escapee and found her way home
But she is going to go back there this evening and see what she can find....

Hope that kitty got home and taken to the vet---holding a good thought. Like Traci always says...Indoor Only !!
Re: Injured Cat
Do you have a local lost and found in your paper or a website or does the animal shelter have an online lost and found section? Anything like this in your area? Check them all if you can, as well as vets in the area for any cats brought in. Maybe notify the paper and the shelter this kitty was spotted but don't know who owner is, owner could be looking and might already have given description to shelter or vets etc.
The lost and founds might state this kitty as missing, the collar is a giveaway, most likely someone's very loved kitty.
Go back to near the area it appeared she was hiding out, was it sheltered? If it appeared to be an area that was relatively quiet, sheltered from wind, snow etc and she had been nestled there, she might be there again or nearby at another sheltered space not far. She will probably go back to where the food source was left by your friend. Keep an eye on that area any sheltered things nearby, if it's as cold as I think it is (near subzero at night, she is seeking shelter but will remember where the lady left the food).

Re: Injured Cat
Hoping for the best for this kitty. I hope they are able to find him/her or that it found it's way back home or to someone who would help. Please update us if you get any more info.
