She is going to the Hospital at 10:40 this morning....it is the soonest dictors could see her after surgery....

She had some teeth out and gingivitis worked on a little over a week ago, and came home with Clavamox and was eating and doing okay for a sore mouth...

However, by Friday she was not wanting to eat as much, so I got her some special food to coax her...

Yesterday she suddenly got snotty eyed and raspy breathing...not wanting to eat at all...still drinking....lastnight warm to the touch....

This morning we could definitely tell she is dehydrating and not doing well so hubby is taking her in as soon as doctors are out of surgery to see her....
He is not holding high hopes for her at this time, as fast as she is sinking

We do not know what has caused her to turn for the worse....I am praying for URI or pneumonia that can be treated in hospital for a few days with IV meds and nutrition....but if they do not think they can do it....he said the one who brought her into the house as a snotty eyed little kitten will be with her when she crosses the bridge....that would be him...

Hubby just called....he is walking in the door wiht her right now....they will be doing bloodwork and running some preliminary tests to try to figure out what is going on....he will be staying with her until they figure it out....

Will know more as soon as they do.....

It is really hard to work today and not cry knowing people are filing and tlaking right outside my office and I do not have a door

Well, it is not feline leukemia.....which was our first fear since Bud died from that almost two years ago.....even though all are up on vaccinations....

Right now they are testing her kidneys becuase they are suspecting acute kidney failure...based on initial bloodwork and the smell of her breath...would her kidneys fail that fast?
We will know in about 25 minutes on that test..

she was FINE before her mouth work not quite two weeks ago and bloodwork then was fine too....

Hubby has kidney disease and if she is in acute failure we have decided we will let her cross

Acute kidney or liver failure can occur quite rapidly in humans, and I'm pretty sure the same is true in animals. So sorry to hear this. Hope she can be treated. Wishing you and Callie all the best - good luck!

What tests exactly is the vet doing? Is he also including a CBC? Please make sure that is included with a full profile, urinalysis and thyroid testing.

Acute renal failure usually occurs due to a toxin (rancid/moldy/toxic food, toxic plants, chemical, human meds, antifreeze, rodenticide poisoning, etc). In most cases, it can be treated with prompt hospitalization (for a few days) with emergency fluids and other meds.

Chronic renal failure usually occurs due to age and the kidneys' inability to filter toxins.

DON'T GIVE UP! Get the proper testing done, and rule out potential bacterial infection as a result of the prior dental that could have been missed. The CBC should tell the vet a great deal on what's going on, as well as the blood testing and urinalysis. Also check heart function!

You DID have a kitten or two recently with URI's, didn't you? Those URI's could have also been calicivirus, chlamydia or herpesvirus too, so make darn sure the vet rules those out, particularly since she was slightly compromised with the dental (extractions and gingiivitis, both could have contributed to her anorexia, thus dehydration, but fever activity suggests a bacterial infection somewhere).

He said they did a CBC...I do not have numbers of course, but they said it took a long time for her blood to clot...she is very weak and wobby at this time...not much strength left at all...I just cannot believe she is fading THIS fast?!

No moldy food or toxins or plants around...no houseplants at all...I kill them....
Cleaning chemicals are all kept put away...no rodenticides...we use a live trap and release....

She is...was...at the best animal hospital in the region....so I trust that they would have done any and all they could for her before helping make this decision for her.....

This makes no sense to me, if her bloodwork was normal two weeks ago, only acute renal failure could cause the kidneys to fail this fast. (or a multiple organ disfunction going on).
