foaming at the mouth
foaming at the mouth
i need some help. my cat of two years has recently been found foaming at the mouth twice. the first time we called a vet line and they said it was probably something she ate and if she was using the litter box, eating, drinking and isnt lethargic she should be okay. however it happened for a second time and i fear that it may be something more serious. but i dont know for sure. anybdy else know about this problem?
Re: foaming at the mouth
Don't call the vet, get your kitty TO the vet, and immediately. Excessive salivation/drooling/foaming could be the result of many different things, from oral problems to toxicity of a plant or toxic substance.
Don't take risks with your kitty's health, this is a red flag to you that you need to get her to a vet RIGHT NOW. A phone call to a vet (nor a bulletin board) is not the answer, she needs a complete exam immediately.

Re: foaming at the mouth
The first thing that came to my mind was the issue Traic mentioned about plants. Do you have any plants in your house? There are TONS of toxic houseplants, and cats can DIE from eating them. Please look at the list of toxic plants on the "poisonous plant database" listed under Emergency (to the left of this web page. If you have any of the plants, move them OUT immediately. Take your cat to the vet, too. You need to find out WHY it's foaming at the mouth. Please let us know what your vet says, ok?

Re: foaming at the mouth
My cat did that yesterday but he only did it once, I think it might have been from the cream that I put on his rash because he licked it. Please tell us what your vet said so I know what to do with mine! It would help so much!! Thanks!!

Candie~
I do not think you understand. YOu must take your cat to the vet for bloodwork and evaluation. Even it was the cream, itmay have harmed him.
Please call for an appointment right away.
