My cats wont go outside becuase of other cats

Post by bubbles »

Ever since four cats moved in next door my cats (mitsy and maisy) are too afraid to go outside. I don't like my cats being bullied but i don't know how to stop it. Sometimes the next door cats will actually come inside MY house. How can i stop this? Help!

Yes but my house is very small, it doesnt seem fair for them to be limited to it.

I've live in a very small place (I mean very small) while going to school, with 2 cats at first, now 1 cat. Do I sometimes think it's unfair to the cat? Yes, but I make sure she has plenty of play time, have created her hiding spots, places with different levels she can get to and she is fine. I couldn't imagine letting her go outside to run with the danger of dogs, raccoons, bears, coyotes, foxes, eagles, ticks, and disease etc. We don't live near the road but the other dangers are enough that I figure keeping her inside is not punishment. She has windows and a screen door to look outside and she does enjoy watching the wildlife through those. She is a very happy and content cat. In my eyes it is actually more than fair to keep a cat indoors only because of the dangers of being outdoors. If they are perfectly fine with not wanting to go outside let that be the opportunity you need to keep them inside. So many people who want to convert outdoor kitties to indoor kitties have problems with the cats insisting. Take this gift as a great opportunity to keep your cats safe from all the dangers out there. Good luck!

What's more important to you, your cat's safety and longevity, or worrying about them getting into fights, getting harmed, getting hit by cars, all the dangers etc?

Don't anthropomorphize. If you provide an interesting, stimulating indoor environment for your cats, they will stay happy, healthy and live longer.

My cat is indoor only and has a great life! My neighbor...who is moved out now...had 3 cats and they all got hit by cars. It breaks my heart as I would befriend them when they were outside. The last one only made it a few months. Thank God that man is going where he can't have pets anymore.

I have 3 cats in a 1 bedroom apartment, and they're extremely happy. I seriously doubt your house is really too small for your cats.

Also, look at it this way: Your kitties already don't want to go outside now because of dangers they've experienced. You wouldn't be cooping them up when they've already decided for themselves that they feel safer indoors.

Just last week I picked up one of the outside ferals off the road, dead, hit by a car. My husband was just leaving for work and saw him out there. I went out and he was still warm but already gone. I hope it was an instant kill because he had some severe internal bleeding. The blood was coming out of his ears and mouth, and some bleeding from the side laying on the street. I picked its limp body up and laid it on a cheapo tablecloth and brought him to the side of the street and called animal control to come get it. There he laid for most of the day with flies covering it. Dead.
Keep your cats inside or you could be seeing this sight with your own kiitties.
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Oh Debbie..how horrible

I remember when I lived in Tampa we had a woman who fed many cats, all outdoors, and I buried at least 3 of hers after finding them dead on the road. It tears my heart out to see this....
