Re: Another frustrating email
Jason you are right, the cat needed immediate attention. I suppose Julia is just trying to sort things out now that Dusty is dead. I feel somewhat responsible because after a few emails and no reply to the post here, I told Julie to just watch the cat for unusual signs. She was without a car and no means to get to a vet on Sunday. I have my own guilt in this death as well.

Re: Another frustrating email
I am crying over the tragic end of this poor kitty.
I don't know if others will see the same way, but I see something good as well as something terrible here. I have hope for Julia, because she was strong enough and gutsy enough not only to break it off with this jerk, but also to call the police - I think she is to be admired for this. Many women would not do this ... they would excuse him because he was "stressed out", or they would blame themselves, and then *they* would be on the receiving end of his backhand next time. Animal abuse is just as bad as human abuse, and one thing leads to another - and she was right to recognize this. So sad, but many women are unable for whatever reason to get out of relationships like this.
Thank you, MA, for caring and for trying to help, even when the ultimate end comes.

I'd like to backhand that moron with a two-by-four!!! I hope the police find him and she prosecutes. People like that, who hurt poor, defenseless animals make me sick. An eye for an eye, I say...
My heart aches for poor Dusty and his owner. MA, don't feel guilty, just know that you were trying to help. Please keep us updated on the status of the %$&hole ex-boyfriend....

MA, it could have been tracheal collapse or even a broken vertebrae due to the force.
She needs to get a restraining order immediately. This will help to serve the purpose until he can be charged, brought to court, whatever. (don't look for more than a slap on the wrist, too many states don't view pets as anything more than property or the value of which the owner paid for, like a certain breed, if that)
It's not your fault, how ever could you have known, you did your best, it was ultimately a death caused by the hands of another, when he meets his maker some day, he will then have to answer.

Re: Another frustrating email
This is the first time I've had a chance to check the board today, and I am totally and completely broken apart about this..... I cannot believe this has happened. My heart is aching for Dusty.....
I think it is interesting that they "can't find" the boyfriend at this point...... Did this woman even know the guy well enough to know any of his family, friends, or former coworkers who might have a clue as to where he is? Of course, I know too well how easy it is for a piece of slime to hide in a crack somewhere so that no one can find them......
In Georgia, animal cruelty is a felony. However, as Traci said, in most cases, things get twisted around so that the abuser ends up getting off with a slap on the wrist. In my case, Lily's abuser didn't get a thing for abusing her repeatedly. Although I filed felony animal cruelty charges, it was reduced to a misdemeanor in court (behind closed doors and without me present), and NOTHING was added to his sentence for what he did to Lily. (The time he served was only for "forgery" (which happened to also be his THIRD felony charge of forgery - so much for the "three strikes you're out" deal in Georgia, too. Didn't they even think about the fact that the FELONY animal cruelty charges would have made it FOUR felonies???? I don't think the courts think at all. Meantime, he's out of jail again looking for his next victim to steal from.))
Regardless, I hope the ex-boyfriend is caught. And while I'm glad the woman had the guts to get rid of the worthless piece of crap boyfriend, I can attest to the fact that the lesson learned was not worth the price she had to pay to learn it. I live with the same lesson learned the same way every single day of my life.
Precious Dusty.....give my Lily a kitty kiss for me.....

Re: Another frustrating email
I was avoiding opening this post. Don't know why, something was just holding me back and after reading through it I see the reason.
I am so heartbroken for this cat and this girl and for you, MA. Dusty is now with Susan's Lily enjoying the company of Bartee, where no one will ever hurt them again.
