Kitten pics...Basement kittens and the Hissers

Post by Auntie Debbie »

The Basement kittens are doing well and really enjoying their permanent freedom from the crate. So far they are being very good about using the litter box. They’ve been good during their run-a-round times but now that they’re out of the crate for good is the real test!

The newbies, aka “Hissers” are indeed little hissers as promised. Once you get them and hold them, they’re fine and so far not one has actually tried to bite. The woman that had them fostered them as a favor to one of the rescue group members since we are all filled to capacity. She was doing her best but was afraid of them. With the ac in the spare room now and a large crate I can accommodate two groups now. They are basically sweet kittens, just very afraid, much like they were abused. They coil when a hand comes near their faces like they’ve been hit or something. From behind they’re not too bad. The orange and white one is the hissiest and will be the biggest challenge. The black and white is fairly friendly already. All are male except for the gray one, I’m told.

The black kittens are growing by leaps and bounds, literally!

Keep loving on the new babes, just their expressions tell a tale, they're scared!

If anyone can turn them around...with all the love you have to give..it's you, Debbie. They look cute and bet you will soon have them being as sweet as they look.

Thanks guys! They are already coming around, and not being as scared or quick to get away from me when I reach for them. They're still scared looking, not thrilled when I reach for them, but they do look like they're feeling more secure ini their new environment and they like watching the black kittens run around. Maybe they can learn to use the litter box properly watching them. In their own rights, they are using the little box I have in the crate for them, so that's a plus.
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Oh they'll come around  And they have each other, which is always great for kittens. Their expressions make them look like little orphans, they are just so adorable!

The last of the black kittens got adopted yesterday at Petco. About a week or so ago, Hennesey (aka Boinky) and Chianti were adopted together. Then, this Saturday Baileys and Dewers were adopted together. I was really hoping I would get stuck with Amaretto, at least for a little while longer. He was my favorite and he really bonded with me. But he went to a very nice home too yesterday. I’m really going to miss those guys!

The Hissers are doing well, except for the gray one. She seems to be okay, just has a little bit of a sneeze going on. No one else is sneezing, just her…so they will all be on some antibiotics to be on the safe side.
The gray one is now very friendly and loves attention. The black and white doesn’t seek attention but will enjoy it when given. The all orange will still run sometimes, but once cornered or picked up and petted he gets into it and will purr. The hold out is the orange and white…not hissing anymore or stuggling when held, but clearly does not enjoy it.

I have named them:
Gray (only female)-St. Paulie Girl, or just Paulie for short
Black & While-Heineken
All Orange-Bud
Orange & White-Bud lite

I just love the beer theme names, LOL, would be great if they could all be adopted together.

Congrats on a job well done with the black beauties, would be interested in knowing your/rescue group strategy, our local orgs can't seem to be getting their job done :(

No real strategy...we just haul em all up to petco when we can on weekends. If the lady who handles the adoptions hears of someone, or someone calls her looking for a particular kind of cat/kitten she will make arrangements where and when she cann even if it's not on the weekend. I prefer to stick around at Petco to push the kittens and make sure they go to good homes.
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Congrats on all these further successes. I don't see how you do it, but am so glad you do :D

I'm wondering if Paulie's sneezing could be allergy? I, the human (most people agree) in MY menage, have allergies here in Austin I never had in swampy old N'Awlins, and now one of my cats - Texas Pinto, but not Orleans Parish Q - has occasional sneezing episodes here in the same area of our apartment, which is by a window that looks out over a dusty hillside... the window is usually closed of course, but opened once in a while. A/C system works great temp-wise but the filtering system not so; mold spores and dust mites abound in such an atmosphere I'm told - to say nothing of the litter situation: it could be the type of litter itself, triggering reaction in one cat but not the other... At the regular vet's I talked to a pleasant woman vet who makes house calls; I am saving up to have her come check out the whole situation in my apartment, since it looks now like I will be staying at least until winter...

Anyway, thanks again for the update.
