A lady at work just got a phone call...she just left work......her "second family" has had a rough morning....rought few months...

a couple of months ago this lady lost her fiance from a head injury at work.....his daughter's home just caught fire and her dogs were inside...the firemen were not able to save them.....

one of the other sister's (of the one who's house just burned) dogs was also in the house being dog-sat by the gal who just lost her home...it DID manage to run out in a panic...into the road...and was hit by a passing truck...it also died

Please pray for these families and the dogs...I do not know names...but they are safe across the Rainbow Bridge now and in no more fear or pain...

This happens much too often, and while sometimes it is out of the homeowner's control, some things can be prevented.

The link has helpful prevention tips, but there are numerous other things people can do to try to prevent this. I especially like the idea of a monitored smoke detector that is connected to a monitoring center, emergency crew could be alerted and dispatched sooner.

I will read through the link later on....but about the home monitoring system....

I do not even remember it, I was so small, a toddler...and I am 47 now...but back in the early 60s and on into the mid 70s, my dad was a volunteer fire fighter --- and back then there was no separate paramedics, the firemen did it all ---and saw it all ...

My dad also did alot of home tinkering and was a civil mechanical engineering instructor with the Army at Ft. Belvoir in Washington, DC...

the first home I lived in, he had rigged up an alarm system with lights and wires and an LOUD FIREHOUSE alarm bell...there was a sensor in every room which ran to a panel on the living room wall....that panel had lights for each room, wired and labeled accordingly...and then each wire was hooked to that LOUD BELL...

if a fire broke out in any one room, the heat and smoke in that room set off the sensor, which ran a warning through the wiring system to the panel, lit up the light flashing for that room and sounded the alarm...all within minutes...giving the homeowners time to make a call and get out to safety...

years after we moved out, a girl was saved, as was the house, and only ONE upstairs bedroom damaged from a bad electrical outlet when the lighted panel set off an alarm...

Dad never did patent his "invention"...as he never did any of them...

This is also one of my greatest fears. I remember having recurring nightmares as a child because my former neighbors lost their pets that I used to play with and pet along with their new house in a fire. When I found out about the fire, I had to know if the animals were OK. I remember my Mom telling me that they foundthe bodies of the dog (a dachshund) and the cat curled up together under the bed in the master bedroom. It was a horrible day for me. I was only 9 years old at the time.

I have a sign at my front door that was provided during a neighborhood watch meeting that says "pet inside" - it's right beside the neighborhood watch and my alarm company decals. Hopefully, emergency workers would save my babies if they had to.

Fire scares me so much. We live in the mountains and over the years, have used both a wood stove and pellet stove for heat. We have had a chimney fire with each. Luckily, we were there and got them put out before any damage was done. Now we mostly use electric heat and only use the wood if it's very cold. We have forest fires too but have more notice with them so we can get the kitties out.

Tambrey, how tragic about your co-worker's "second family". Although I don't know their names, I'll include them in my prayers. As you say, those sweet dogs are safe and healthy now at the Bridge - never any fear or pain again.

Please tell your co-worker I'm so sorry for all that has happened.
