Traci- have you got any words of wisdom here other than her new boyfriend is a slob and he needs to be euthanized?
"Dear Hissy,
Recently I have a new man in my life and he is not tolerant of my cats. Last night, the cats were eating and my oldest cat was jockeying for postition and so there was some snarling going on, I have 4 cats.
Ritch got upset and before I could stop him he backhanded my older cat right in the head. I yelled at him and went to scoop her up but she ran (unsteadily) away from me. I chasedhim out o fmy apartment and went to Dusty and finally picked her up. She stress shed all over me and she can't meow. She tried but she has no voice. She is eating though and I am sick with worry. Should I call the vet? He hit her hard! She has been on my lap all morning and is on me right now as I type. I just don't know what to do. Ritch has never hurt me or my animals before? He is being laid off work, could that be why?"
Traci I told her to call her vet tomorrow morning and take the cat in as long as the cat doesn't show symptoms that are unusual like bumping into things, walking in circles or unsteadily or going out of the litter pan, not eating or drinking? But really I am not qualified to know what a slap to the head of a poor cat can do to the cat- GRRRRR!

Re: Another frustrating email
I think I'd like to know what a slap in the head would do to that stupid ......
Sorry - but when it comes to hurting an animal, I think I could easily be capable of doing great bodily harm to the human who hurts the animal.
I couldn't help getting teary-eyed when I read the email you posted.... Please let us know how Dusty gets, ok? I sure hope the person who wrote the email will take the kitty in to the vet ASAP, and the boyfriend to the morgue (or to the middle of the lake in a black bag with a brick tied around his ankles) even sooner.....
I just can't tolerate even the thought of harming an animal...

Well, considering the board is censored, let me just say.....
YES, kitty needs a vet exam IMMEDIATELY, and I wouldn't even wait for tomorrow, head traumas can fast lead to progressive signs, so don't even risk waiting. Not knowing the force used, one does NOT want to take chances here. In head injuries and trauma, it is always best to seek immediately veterinary attention in the event that brain swelling or optic nerve damage has occured, in which immediate emergency med is imperative (i.e., blunt force trauma, most cases recover more quickly if steroidal approach is given within first 4-6 hours after the trauma incident). Tell this woman that it is in kitty's best interest to get examined by an ER clinic pronto, she will have peace of mind for doing so.
As for the boyfriend, we don't care if he's unemployed, animal abuse leads to human abuse, and this woman needs to take every precaution to protect herself as well as her kitties (and other pets, children, etc). There is NO excuse for a man to deliberately hurt an animal simply because he is under stress. What a cop-out. "He has never hit me or my animals before". There is a first time for everything, isn't there, and he is likely to do it again, not to mention direct his stress and anger toward HER. He has a lot of owning up to do, growing up, and maybe some anger management classes, in which, he should seek other living arrangements.
Bottom line, get kitty to nearest ER clinic right this minute....get boyfriend out of the house immediately and re-evaluate that relationship.

MA.....I cannot even find the words to express my sorrow, my disdain and my ultimate anger over this, it so could have been preventative. My heart aches for this poor poor kitty, and her owner...how tragic.

In addition to the horror of this, the boyfriend needs to be prosecuted for animal abuse. In my state he would be in custody.
Also it appears as though the kitty was not taken to an ER vet immediately.
All I can do is pray for its littel soul.

Traci?
I just heard back from Julia and she has a peculiar question. Dusty was a Siamese mix and always had a pronounced meow, but after the slap her meow turned into a form of laryngitis. Julia would like to know why- and she has also filed a police report against her now ex-boyfriend. But they can't find him yet
