Roo has another Hematoma
Roo has another Hematoma
So off to the vet first thing tomorrow before work to leave him for the day...
Actually...Roo seems to care less about it...but it must get taken care of...
He was just in a little over a week ago for his ears and the new vet found that he has been struggling with a yeast infection so we have been treating for that and he has been MUCH better and happier....
So now the question will be...HOW do we continue to do the daily swabbing of his ears and doing the drops with the stitches in that one ear...ir will it suffice to just do the drops until it heals from the stitches then give it a GOOD cleaning after it has healed?
I do not want to go that long without the yeast medication and risk that returning on him...we have come this far!!

Depending on how the sutures look, your vet will instruct you on the swabbing and use of the drops. Follow his instructions exactly.
Poor Roo, hope he's feeling better soon!

Re: Roo has another Hematoma
I hope he will be feeling better soon too! When Sals had her ear infection, she was finally treated with prednisilone for the inflammation and appetite stimulant and Baytril for the infection. She was on tresaderm but that was a waste of time and money for her....maybe oral meds would work better? just a thought.
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Re: Roo has another Hematoma
Roo is home but still kinda loopy...he did not have his surgery until later this afternoon since he was a squeeze in and it is a holiday weekend...
We did not get there in time to pick him up before they closed, so had to go in the back door with the key hubby has...
Roo did want to be on the desk with me and Gypsy and he got relaly excited when I fed her, so I gave him a small spoonful of canned food, which he is slowly picking at...but he keeps falling asleep....
I will call tomorrow and ask while the vet is there tending to those he has over the weekend about ear care...the stitches are like French Knots in embroidery...and all over his ear, so there is really no way that I can see at this time to get a firm grip on that ear to hold it and clean it for the next couple of weeks without tearing those stitches out.....
I may have to ask about oral meds in the meantime to see how that works for his yeast infection in his ears and continue with the drops after this heals....
I wonder....yogurt works for human yeast imbalances....does it work for cats if I got a plain Greek yogurt?

Yogurt isn't going to do a thing for ear-yeast.
You know it is never a good idea to release a pet having had anesthesia without getting the vet's last check-over of the pet (monitoring vital signs etc) and specific instructions on care at home. Why didn't he leave instructions for you?
Is Roo feeling better from the anesthesia this morning? Is he interested in eating?

Re: Roo has another Hematoma
oh yes....he left instructions for the next 48 hours on the carrier in the recovery area.....
Roo was fully awake when we brought him home...just kept wanting to sleep and was very clingy...I guess loopy was not a good choice of words....his tongue was no longer out and his eyes were normal....he was just very lethargic and tired still....
He is NOT feeling good today I know his ear is bothering him...he keeps twitching in and growling...he was not like this after the last hematoma surgery, but then, he also was not dealing with yeast infection either....
I came home from grocery shopping to find him laying in the kitchen sink, which is stainless steel....
He did eat when we set food in front of him, but he prefers to not be around the other cats right now....so we took him upstairs and set him by the window on the landing where he can enjoy the view out in the trees where mama birds are teaching babies to fly and a nice breeze is blowing in....

Re: Roo has another Hematoma
I hope he is feeling better today. Have you spoken to your vet yet about the possibility of oral meds vs topical? I remember how painful Sals always looked when she had her ear infection, and she wasn't dealing with a hematoma surgery on top of it!
He's in my prayers to recover from this quickly! I know how worried you must be about him.

Re: Roo has another Hematoma
Are you sure he doesn't have a fever? Anything unusual that occurs directly after anesthesia and post-op needs to be addressed by your vet ASAP!! Laying in the sink just might indicate a fever, don't wait on this Tambrey, call the vet!

Re: Roo has another Hematoma
He is back to his normal self....It was near to 100F and 75% humidity yesterday and we do not have A/C...he normally lays on the coffee table in the living room in front of the fan, but I think that bothered his ear so he needed another cool place to lay....I have a personal sized fan above the kitchen sink, but it does not blow directly in the sink, so he probably had a bit of a cross breeze there as well as the coolness of the stainless steel....
He was right with the rest of them when I was putting food down this afternoon and chowing down alongside them...purring and rubbing against me this afternoon....
When I fed Gypsy her canned food, I also always give a small spoonful of it to Tripod, a small spoon to Gump and a small spoon to Majik...Wahtever is left in the can, I dump out for anyone who gets to it first (I try to make them take turns, though)...Roo was right there as he usually is to get it...
He is sleeping peacefully on the shelf above the desk as I am typing....no growling or tail or ear flicking....
The basement is totally dry now, and absolutely nothing down there...so we opened that door this afternoon and invited all of the animals down there to investigate...if they want to lay on a cool concrete floor 8 feet under ground they are welcome to do so.....
Of course...Ghost proceeded to want to lift his leg and pee on a drain pipe

AAARRRGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!
It swelled up and the stitches have disappeared into his ear on the inside
He was doing so well lastnight acting like it did not bother him at all now...eating well and everything.....we were both gone today and came home....I checked his ear and saw this....*sighs*.....
off to the vet before work tomorrow....he is NOT going to be happy with me
Can they use heavier stitches....I wonder why it swelled this way....I have never had a hematoma surgery do this before...he hasnot bevn been bothering his ears elsewise....
