Yesterday we went to the adoption day (the same rescue we got Kobi from), and came home with a 14-wk old all-black DMH, who we've named Pele. Right now she's quarantined in the kitchen so she and Kobi can smell each other, and I'm kitten-proofing the rest of the apartment. What a fantastic kitty! She couldn't be more affectionate. I think she's going to be a bit of a terror, though ... watch out, toilet paper!
We were warned that she didn't take too well to the foster's cats at first, but she didn't isolate the new ones from hers at all. (We were also warned that she had been exposed to ringworm but wasn't showing any signs of it yet -- so we're going to give Program to both prophylactically.)
Pele seems to be doing great. She wants nothing more than to sit on your shoulder or climb up your leg while you're doing dishes (ouch!). She is also happily playing with a bunch of mice, scratching on the scratching pad, pooping where she's supposed to ... only she wants OUT of the kitchen where she's quarantined and IN to check out Kobi. She cries at the door sometimes when she hears us in the rest of the apartment.
It's only been 18 hours or so, but I've caught Kobi hissing through the door to the kitchen. Both times were when Pele was crying and I went up to the door and said "It's okay little girl", you know, cooed something like that. I reassured Kobi that she's our first love, but how am I supposed to react to her hissing? Should I tell her "NO", or just let the two of them talk it out? If I move closer to her, she turns around and hisses at me.
We're going to play it by ear for the next few days ... I had wanted to wait only two or three days, but with this hissing I'm thinking I'll have to wait longer.
I'll send pics of my black beauty as soon as I get one (hang on a minute, I'll go do it right now).

Oh drat, it seems the digital camera has been borrowed and is off on a field trip. It will have to wait until Wednesday.

Re: New addition to the family!
congrats on your new addition!! As far as the introductions go I usually let them hiss it out. Sometimes I will calmly tell them no, pet them if I know they won't swat at me and explain to them about the new addition. Can't wait to see pics
