Urgent help for suspected skin ulcer (?)
i question why the vet is givin you all these homeopath ::
med cause once you open these sacs they help up in spite of what you do...most animals have anal sacs which are secreting glands that they spray out to mark their territoy or entice a member of the opposite *beep*...they are normal but once in a while the get occluded and abscessed and have to opened....but again once drained they will heal with out all that other stuff
Lan, I must concur with Davet, no need for those homeopathic 'remedies', the baytril given will clear it up in no time, those 'remedies' aren't going to do a thing to heal this. I despise homeopathic vets who use common antibiotics and then rob the pet owner with adding useless remedies. Sorry, but that's my take on it.
Just watch the area well, and if it doesn't show improvement, get kitty to another vet (preferrably conventional) and ask for either baytril again or other type antibiotic. Chances are, this is going to heal nicely in no time.
For what it's worth, Davet asked on the canine health forum about how those remedies would treat anal sac blockage or abcess, and I'm including my response....
As per anal sac blockage and abcess, nothing.
As per dubious claims? Here ya go:
Arnica: bruises, chapped skin, from backache to vericose veins to muscle relaxant
Belladona: fever remedy, antiinflammatory, hot spots, from acne to mumps/measles/smallpox
Mercurious: mouth problems, discharge, emotional unbalance, from bad breath to measles and small pox
Silicea AKA Silica: from allergies to constipation to teething to anxiety
Sulfur: skin conditions
Of course, each and every one of them has a claim to treat a miriad of conditions, how convenient

Yes, I do hope the Baytril will do nicely the job. But as I am a holistic believer, my vet, who is a conventional vet first but does also homeo for some conditions, knows that I would rather treat Belle holistically whenever possible, except in acute conditions to relieve the pain.
Homeopathy is a personal choice and I understand perfectly that it does not work for others. My brother, who is a MD, does not believe in homeopathy either. It's kind of funny, but during his first couple of years at med school, he introduced me to it but then later, he dropped it.
You are right, in my homeo books, there is no treatment offered for anal sac blockage or abscesses. So to treat it, it's only by "peripheral" symptoms and for speed the healing process only.
It's too bad there is no preventive treatment for anal sac blockage. I don't want Belle to ever go through that again and hopefully, she won't. Someone wrote to me that food with too much fat (although I don't think her diet is too fatty) can contribute to the problem.
Again, many thanks to you Traci and Davet for helping Belle and I on this matter.
I wish you the very best.
