I think I have to put Muffin down.

Post by corlev »

Muffin has an enlarged heart. She was at the vet overnight and had fluid pumped from the area around her lungs, and is on two heart medications and lasix. We brought her home yesterday, but she seems no better....basically just sits on a chair, and may get off about once a day. Today we are getting the results of the fluid analysis, but I think it is her time. This is just awful....it's been a long time since I put my first cat down. Muffin was diagnosed and got sick very quickly. Any support would be appreciated. I know deep down it is the right thing to do; I hate watching her suffer.

I'm so sorry you have to make such a tough decision with Muffin. I know you will know when the time is right. I hope her journey across the bridge will be peaceful and that she will find a lovely place there.

Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Do you have a feline cardiologist working with you, or only your primary vet? A feline cardiologist is best since they have much more experience with treatment, medications, monitoring. Many times, a simple dose or adjustment in the proper medication can help considerably and manage heart disease. What exactly is the heart disease diagnosed? CHF, dilated, hypertrophic, etc? Has chylothorax been ruled out? (infection)

Just wanted to tell you Muffin passed on last Thursday. There is something missing in my house....the mourning process for a pet is just awful. Luckily, my other two cats are helping me get through. I am comforted because I gave Muffin 9 1/2 good years after I rescued her from outside. Thank you for all of your thoughts.

I am so sorry. It is just so hard to lose them. They come into our lives for awhile and then they have to leave us. It must mean something. Try to keep that thought, and caress the ones who remain. My thoughts are with you. Love,
