Traci, about that sample...

Post by Sals »

Mom finally caught me in the box last night after trailing me around like I had her on a leash or something. And she got all excited because I was just about to go too. So there she is with this paper cup right at my butt and I willingly complied and lifted my butt a little higher so she could get what she came for. I no sooner let it rip and hear a plop in the cup and she screeches "Ewwwww!!!!" Seems she wasn't getting what she wanted. Well whaddya think would happen? Ka-chang my tail and if my eyes match ya get a cup fulla quarters?
I mean really, enough is enough already. No privacy, even in the box, a nightly pill (and I've been a good sport about that up until tonight), and being treated like an invalid when I'm feeling perfectly fine.Lookin at me now, you'd never know Monday happened!
I will continue to keep ya posted.

Sals, I'm only trying to take good care of you., so please be patient with Mom, okay?

Trace, it really is pretty much as Sals says. She really only had that one big episode of back and forth to the box and licking herself in between trips that first night. And even then, once I moved away from the computer area and sat on the couch, she was right next to me for almost the whole night. I saw her in the box a couple of times the next morning and not again since except once last night when I got the wrong sample.
Do cats with UTIs show so much improvement so fast? She really is acting herself and doing everything she normally does.

Maybe she had some constipation and was urinating just because she was there. When I saw her licking herself it was the entire area, not just one spot, so maybe she was having some kind of anal problem???

Or maybe she was licking one of the areas and made herself sore and she felt some irritation which the anti-inflammmatory shot cured?

Or maybe she was just goofing on me
any thoughts would be appreciated!
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Debbie,

I'm sorry Sals is having a problem. Try to get another pee sample if you can and get it checked. Thomas didn't do back-and-forth trips to the box last week and yet he still had/has a UTI along with other things. If you can swing it, maybe take her in for a check.

You just know Miss Sals was laughing into her fur when she gave you that "solid" present instead of the "liquid" present you were hoping for.

Please let me know how Sals is doing OK? I'll talk to you Sunday for sure.

Lots of ((((HUGS)))) for you and Sals.... (Note to Miss Sals: You try to be good and pee in the cup for Mommy OK? She's worried about you, and if there's something wrong the sooner you get help the sooner you-and Mom-will feel better....Love ya sweetie!)
((((HUGS))))

Well, knowing Sals, I'd have to go with option #3, she's goofing on you. But, mom knows best, and so does Aunt T.

Aunti Bridget is right on, even though the symptoms may not be that evident, you don't want to take chances. You know that crystals can do this as opposed to a UTI, without the common symptoms, so if you're familiar with feeling her bladder at any time you think it may be full, take her to her box and try to encourage her to go (of course, cup in hand, LOL)

It IS possible it is or was something like irritation, but I don't think I would chance it, Debbie. Try to get a sample again, if you can, simply save it and get it to your vet clinic as soon as possible for testing (you won't necessarily have to take Sals, just the sample)

Remember, early morning is best time to try for a sample, after they're up, after breakfast, water intake is usually at it's best then, first litterbox duty, etc. If you ARE familiar with gently palpating the bladder, this might get her in motion to give you a sample, BUT, don't attempt this if you're not familiar or comfortable with it. If it comes to it, you might drop her off at your vet's on your way to work on a morning, and pick her up at noon, in which time, they might be able to get a sample. On the otherhand, Sals would know something is up and refuse to cooperate, you know her best, ask your vet if that might be an option.

Continued good thoughts, hopefully this isn't what we're all dreading, but you know us, we're not going to let you risk it.....use your best judgement, Debbie...keep us posted!!

Well, we're still working on that sample. Like I said before, she;s ackting like Monday night never happened and back to not being seen in the box. I really do think she made soooo many trips that night because she wanted me to know something was up. Once I sat in the living room, she settled in too. It's very doubtful she'd do anything at the vets. when there she completely freezes and will not move at all. All vets that have seen her have remarked on how well behaved she is. But that's only because she turns mmotionless. And given her need for privacy at home, I really don't see her whipping up any samples in a strange environment, LOL!
However, I do agree that a sample would be ideal. Even if it is after she's done her 10 day spree with the Baytril to ensure there are no more crystals or whatever, if there were any to begin with.
But she is competely back to her fuzzy little self and last night she was totally uncooperative about pill time (which will take place again shortly....wish me luck!)...but chowed down the treats afterwards and still maintains her good appetite.
Thanks for your concern and I will keep you posted. And really, if I thought for a minute she would do something at the vets I would leave her there. But I just don't see it. If worse ever comes to worse I might consider taking her there or leaving her there so they can take a sample the hard way...but that's a very last resort if there is some major problem going on.
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Sals, so sorry to hear about your problems. Hope things are better now. you did well, hanging around in the litter box until Mom noticed. I do that when I need to get Helen's attention, altho I have not had to do that for awhile now. I am going to have to go to the vets today to get a cardio workup tomorrow. Heres hoping I do not have any big problems or even have to go on meds yet. I have a good heart, even if it is small, but they want to look inside to be sure. (My heart is so good I even put up with that new cat, Murphy--well, I guess he has been here a year now. Once in a whil I just have to tell him not to hang out too close to Helen or in any of the areas I prefer.)

How is RR? Let us hear from you.

Petey--and brothers, Squeaky and Murphy
