Lossing hair on ears? Sneezing a lot

Post by Marie »

I few concerns that I have on my 4 1/2 year old cat. I have noticed that it looks like the hair on the back of her ears is thinning. I am not sure if this is for certain- she has black hair... but I am thinking maybe my "little" 1 1/2 year old kitty has been biting her ears when they fool around since the little one does not have her claws but the older one does. I looked in her ears to see if she had mites or anything and didn't see anything but I did see a small little cut probably from the pesty "little one".
Also this same cat has always sneezed occasionally- never any health issues or anything but she just sneezes.... well now I think she has been sneezing more often. Once again I don't know if I am just being overly paranoid or not (I tend to be when it comes to my cats)
I don't know why I am posting this but I just had these little concerns. She seems to be her self, does not seem listless or sick so it is probably nothing- maybe I should dust- maybe she's allergic!

As you can probably surmise, our motto here is when in doubt, never hesitate to get an exam by your vet.

Chances are, she's perfectly healthy. But, there are conditions that can cause fur loss, so you want to be one step ahead and determine if an underlying condition is surfacing. My guess is that the scarce fur on her ears is normal, some of mine have the same thing, nothing serious.

As for the sneezing, again, a vet check is a good idea. Assuming she is up-to-date on her vaccinations, it is unlikely a viral to be concerned about. However, vaccinations are not 100% fool-proof, so annual exams are necessary to keep abreast of hidden problems. You could be right in thinking it's environmental, such as dust or pollen, but sneezing could also be from a nasal problem, polyp developing, a viral or bacterial infection, an upper respiratory infection, foreign embedded object, allergy to food, etc. Be sure to tell your vet how long this has ensued, and any times in particular it seems to worsen.

You're not overly worried, you're a concerned kitty mom, it's best to be worried and get an exam and peace of mind, than not.
