Meet Mozart

Post by Tambrey »

Well.....teenagers tend to NOT think clearly....

My son's girlfriend got a puppy....they live in a SMALL apartment...they CAN have pets with a $750 deposit....but this dog will NOT have room to run as it grows....there is no yard....

She was planning on just taking it home with her over CHristmas and expecting her parents to welcome it with loving open arms....she was wrong....they would not even let her bring it home as they were afraid their poodle would not be so nice...so MY mom has had it in an X-Large crate in her living room, because her two doxies are not too thrilled with it, but at least she is home all day to take care of it and let it out to go potty and such....yes, it is housebroken already...it whines to go out....

For today, my son went and got it to bring down here and let it run free and play in our house....and make introductions...he is an Austrian (or Australian) Shepherd and 7 weeks old in these pictures!

So without further ado....meet Mozart...Mo for short....my "grandpuppy"

Ghost thinking, "What IS that?!"

Tambrey, I have to tell you Mozart looks a lot like Honey when she was a pup (Even has one white paw tip like Honey)...and if you get a dog that good (smart, loyal, easy to learn and of course totally lovable) ...keep it !!! Is that what will happen ...a new puppers at your house? Or just a frequent visitor. I can see why they thought with their hearts. It is sooooo cute.

I have to ask, a 750.00 deposit for a pet? Is the landlord insane? Is he also robbing this kid dry with too-high rent?

Also, are all your dogs and mom's dogs up-to-date on their vaccs? A puppy this young is highly susceptible to parvo and distemper, without having had all his vaccination series, especially depending on where the girlfriend aquired him. Has he seen a vet?

Sigh. This is exactly the dog I want if I got to go home to the South Shore of Lake Pontchartrain. I do hope he is okay and can live with your crew, Tambrey.

Traci...yes, we keep all the dogs up on vaccines since they are indoor/outdoor animals and since when we go on weekend camping trips, etc we cannot always take the bigger ones with us so we will board them at the vets on those times....
And Sammie does go camping with us and up to date vaccines are required for campsites....
Same with Mom...she is very good about keeping her dogs and cat up on their shots and so forth.....

As for the rent....yes, I think so too....but it is a University town so the kids will pay whatever to NOT have to live in the dorms!!
The apartment is maybe 15 cinder blocks wide...you walk into the living room...it is square...then a SMALL kitchenette and bathroom...then to a bedroom with a surprisingly large walk-in closet that they use more for a pantry than clothes....the bedroom is large enough for a queen sized bed and television in the corner....
They pay $350 PLUS utilities....
On the flipside...it is a very NICE complex...kept up well and so forth....

They are hoping that great-grandma will be willing to keep him through spring, bringing him down here when we can to let him run with the big dogs....
And once the ground thaws, they are going to construct a larger area on the farm for him to have a safe place to run and play...and they will come take care of him and play wiht him daily....

Well, I know university towns! It's nearly impossible to find affordable rentals. But, charging that much for a pet is just wrong. I don't know how much has changed since I was renting, but my landlords only asked for a pet deposit the amount of the rent, not more, and sometimes, never. I think it's robbery when landlords ask for this much money, plus your first and last month's rent deposit. That's what that's for, in the event any damage is done, your deposit will be used for repairs, or given back to you when you leave.
