A breakthrough!

Post by slvrwhispr »

Okay. My girls have had their ups and down getting fully adjusted to living with one another. For a long time, they'd just chase each other when they wanted to play, bicker sometimes, and avoid each other the rest of the time. Then they started fighting over me and who got my attention more (just like little kids!). Izzy would always back down because she's just naturally more shy than Emmy. Well, this week, Izzy finally got brave (or comfortable) and came for affection. She's been curling up on my lap a lot, which she'd stopped doing since I brought Emmy home.

Emmy did not enjoy this, and had taken to absolutely CHEWING on Izzy's head and scruff. Oddly enough, Izzy didn't seem to mind. If Emmy got too hard, she'd meow about it, but wouldn't stop her. I'd tell her NO and clap (she responds better to loud noises than to water; she doesn't give a fraction of a crap about the squirt bottle) and she'd stop just to start it up again when I wasn't looking.

Well, I haven't been feeling well, so today I was propped up on the couch covered by the blue blanket that they both love, so naturally they both came for snuggles. Izzy first, then Emmy. Emmy tried to claim me as hers by biting on Izzy, but she was within arm's reach, so I would scruff her just a bit to get her to stop that, with the loud NO. After that twice, she stopped. So I spent some time petting one, then petting the other, talking to them. And soon I had two purring cats practically on my lap.

And then a little later, I had this.

I expect that there will still be some bumps in the road, but Emmy wasn't just tolerating the grooming. She was enjoying it. Looks like maybe I don't have to give up my dreams of adorable kitty-cuddle Christmas cards. :D

Oh, and if you're wondering where Izzy's collar is... yeah, so am I. She's an expert at popping those things off. I'm giving myself until we leave for Detroit to find it, or I'll buy her another one before we go. It's probably inside the couch, but I don't have the energy to flip it and look inside. When hubby's done with this training (a week from today; early mornings and late nights and whatnot) I'll make him do it. That's what he's here for, right? ;)

Both kitties sleeping on my lap. A minute after I took the picture, Emmy turned around and was snuggled up against Izzy, using her as a pillow. Happy times. :)

Warmer lap? That's for sure. I don't get much heat in my apartment (old house/old radiators) but don't mind it so much when I have three or four ... okay five or six to cuddle with at night.

Glad the girls are getting along!
