Agressive Kitty at Bed Time

Post by Squrrrl »

Okay so Maximus is really well behaved and he plays all day or sleeps at my desk while I work. But it seems comes bed time when I crawl into my bed its attack time. He pins his ears back and stalks me and pounces on me. He even bit my face once. He didn't leave marks but it was still a real shock.

I took him to the vet and the vet says its play agression. Do you have any suggestions of what to do so I can keep my kitty in my room at night with me without being attacked?

Also... it is not all the time just the majority of nights, even if I pick his sleeping body off the desk and bring him to bed with me, he wakes up and wants to 'play'.

PS> we never play in the bed so I don't know where he got the idea from.

It sounds like you'll have to incorporate playtime before you retire. Many of us own cats who are nocturnal, the solution is playtime before retiring. Try waking him up an hour or so before you plan on going to bed...play with him, encourage interactive toys, etc, so that he will be encouraged to be sleepy at those times you are.

Note: this doesn't mean he won't be an 'alarm-clock kitty'....which means, doesn't matter if you play at night and tire him out, he's likely to wake you early anyway
