Help

Post by coral »

Hi, I'm new here, but, I have had cats for many years, and this is a new problem. My cat can be sleeping, usually on the sofa with me, and she'll release a small amount of stool, but, it doesn't smell like stool, it smells like the food that she has been eating. It seems to happen when she has had canned food with a gravy base. Anyone ever have this problem?

Thanks for any help.

How old is she and when was her last vet exam?

Are you sure it isn't her anal glands? Sometimes these can get blocked, and they emit a very foul-smelling odor, stool isn't produced but rather a secretion of liquid, usually a brown color.

It could also be that the canned food is not agreeable to her, what brand is it?

Thanks Traci for responding. She is 12 years old, never been sick. It isn't a foul smell at all, smells like the canned food I gave her at lunch time, almost looks like it. It doesn't happen often, maybe 4 times in the last 4 months. I'm thinking she can't handle the canned food with a gravy base. I'm taking her to the vet today for her annual check up. I dread taking her to the vet, she hates getting into the carrier and leaving the house, she get panicky, scares me. Thanks again,
