Cryptoccosis

:cat:

Does anyone out there have any experience with the fungal infection, Cryptoccosis in cats? My cat has been struggling with this infection for 10 costly months and I was hoping to find someone else who may have struggled with or is struggling with this disease. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Crypto can be a very difficult disease to treat and control. Not knowing what your vet's treatment approach has been, I hesitate to comment. But, if you feel your kitty has not shown improvement with current treatment, I would seek a second opinion ASAP. Also, was your kitty tested for FELV/FIV? Some cats with crypto are also positive with these infectious diseases as well, which could delay a successful treatment approach.

If your kitty is by chance suffering from neurological problems or optic problems, I would consult a pro feline only vet, or ask your vet to consult with a nearby veterinary university for more help and treatment options. CNS signs can exacerbate the condition and worsen if not treated agressively and appropriately. Also, treating with itraconazole or fluconazole, while treatments of choice, can cause the disease to reoccur after what appears to be a successful treatment. In that event you would want to opt for an alternate treatment.
