Litter issue please HELP!
Litter issue please HELP!
I have 2 indoor cats. I am at a loss as to what litter if any will help this problem. Right now I am using Fresh Step. When I go to clean out the litter box, I find that there are clumps STUCK to the bottom off the litter pan. Is it from my cat digging to the very bottom, then peeing? Or is there a better litter out there that will solve this issue? It is driving me crazy. I clean the box out every day and yet it takes me forever to get it all up and cleaned out. Any suggestions on the best litter that absorbs everything and stops it from sticking like mud to the bottom? I know there are liners out there, but that is a big pain. I have a larger litter box due to the multiple cats. I can't afford those automatic boxes either. I would love to know what other people use for litter. Thanks!

I use Tidy Cat clumping, and have used others. I don't think it matters what type you end up with, none of them are perfect. The cats could be digging to the bottom to urinate, but urine sinks anyway, so you're still going to have that problem. Try using a different scooper.....metal ones can sometimes be harder to handle and scoop heavy litter, I just use a cheap plastic one and it scoops pretty well. Next time you're at the store, pick up a different one and pretend to go through the motions before you buy it, to make sure it's not too heavy or awkward.
Also, try not to put way too much litter in the box, this too can make it more difficult to scoop and those clumps can get pretty heavy if the litter is too deep.
Make sure you thoroughly clean the litterbox once a week with soap and water and rinse well. The important thing is that the box is thoroughly cleaned weekly to keep it as clean and fresh as possible and to rid it of ammonia and waste.

I've heard the suggestion to use *beep* wax (the stuff surfers put on their boards), which keeps the clumps from sticking to the box. Never actually tried it, and I don't know if there's anything in the wax that might be harmful to the cats. But I thought I'd throw it out there in case anybody else knew...
ETA: Yeah, figured that might get censored... But that's what the stuff is called. Oh well.
