Well, that's better! Mention of the humane society in your next-to-last post scared me and kept me from going to sleep, so I came back here and found your recent (13 August) thread on this board about getting another cat. At that time I was looking into the feral stray situation here in my part of Austin for some neighbors... I had researched the Austin facilities and talked to the Shadow Cat foundation in Round Rock. Even before the two Texas hurricanes this summer, the no-kill places were terribly over-burdened. The regular so-called "humane" societies have to euthanize hundreds of strays every year... I bet it's worse by Ft. Hood... in fact I know it is.And now there are all the refugees here in Central Texas who can't even get back to their homes and have to give up their pets... so let's not hear any more talk about the humane society, OK? And btw, none of these shelters or humane societies will come get an animal... that isn't done anymore here: you have to take the unwanted pet to them, fill out some papers, and walk away, knowing that there is about a 98% chance the poor thing will never be adopted...
Anyway, congratulations - that's a fine looking half-grown male kitty you have there! Looking forward to hearing what the vet says.
Noooo no no, I wouldn't LEAVE him at the humane society. Just see what they could do for me in terms of low-cost vet treatment. Don't worry! He's staying with me.
He's settled in the bathroom; went in there to give him some food and fresh water and he decided to chase and pounce and gnaw on my toes. Luckily, he responds to NO pretty well; I have very sensitive feet... lol. I'll have to get him some good chase toys tomorrow. And something to gnaw on, because he's gnawing on the toilet seat right now. What a goof.
YAY. I called this angel of a woman with her wonderful service transporting local cats to a low-cost treatment program. She's got room for him tonight, so tomorrow night I'll have a healthy, neutered kitten that I can start introducing to Izzy!
WAY TO GO!! You made my day! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for taking this precious little guy in. Private message me your name and address and a list of things you need. I WANT to put a care package together for you. Or let me know if you have a big chain pet store, Petsmart or Petco, in your area.
I see your angel, Kathy's Kitties has a fundraising page also to donate to. I'll do that as well on your behalf but still would like to help you with this little guy.
PM me too, it's listed in her fees about "testing", if I can assume this is testing for both FELV/FIV (with the combo snap test), I'd like to offer to pay for the testing for you. He really should be tested prior to vaccinations and prior to you allowing him contact with Izzy.
Y'know... I've always known this board was populated with good people and true animal lovers... but you guys are getting me all choked up today. I really appreciate you all more than I can put into words...
Well we did "push" you into this, so we are in a way responsible, LOL. We also did so because we know you are an excellent kitty mom and will take excellent care of your new little boy!
I'm happy, though. I have been wanting to get a playmate for Izzy. And he's very playful, so I really think they'll do well together once they're acclimated. Izzy's just been sitting by the bathroom door, staring intently at it. And I can see whiskers under the door when I go over there. At least she's not hissing anymore.
