Awww... I love the little guy so much, and he's not even my cat. He looks so happy and well-adjusted. He's one lucky furball.

He looks so comfy and content!
Has his nose and mucous membranes pinked up? The pics still appear his coloring is pale (nose and inside ears).

omg, I feel like SW- just love him! That last pic is so cute. He deserves the best home and the best life and he has it with your family - both ppl and furppl.
Re: Tripod ~ short video added 8/25
he is very content and this morning was full of it hiding behind the recliner, tail and shoulders twitching and waiting for someone to come by so he could pounce at them...hahaha....
Traci...yes, actually, he is drinking well, going pee 2-3 times a day and a good amount, and he IS pink....but I did notice that in some of the pics, it must be the angle of the flash or something, that makes him look so pale, but he does have colour to his nose and ears...

WE JUST GRADUATED TO THE WATER FOUNTAIN!!!!!
Tripod hopped up to the dish beside the fountain and started to drink....then stopped and stuck his nose into the water BESIDE where the flow is from the fountain...he proceeded to drink...and drink...and drink....probably tasted pretty good coming through that filter and all!!!!
WHOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!
No more extra water dish on the floor to tip over.....no more watered down canned food, well, except maybe for a treat but not because he NEEDS it for hydration.....
his ears, nose and mouth look good....his coat is soft and silky....his skin is smooth and supple....and man oh man he gets around!!!!!

hhmmm....hubby just noticed something today that the (new young) vet never mentioned, and I had not seen yet.....Tripod has double top fangs....just like Roo had
Roo used to have watery eyes and sneeze ALOT until the fangs were removed after it was noted that the roots were WAY up in the sinus cavity....
Tripod has had that watery eye checked...and it is FINE as far as injury or debris....the vet could find nothing there...but sometimes when he eats, it weeps...so I wonder if it could have something to do with that double fang and the roots in the sinus cavity causing it to bother?
Sooo...as soon as we can with finances, we will get that x-rayed and checked and see if one or both need to be removed....and if that makes a difference....
And now I also wonder.....Roo and Tripod must somehow along the way, be related....

I too am so glad Tripod is doing well.... it is such an upbeat, amazing story; and so well documented. Hope you are able to put it all together for publishing (copyright it! don't just give it to the internet!) one of these days. Ever think of a book and/or documentary?
About Roo and Tri and the double fangs: Yes indeed, if these 2 cats came from the same area, chances are great they are related and this is a genetic fluke involving certain members of a whole connected tribe of cats... as is usually found to be the case in six-toed cats (there is a term for the latter condition - maybe Traci knows it, I've forgotten.) You might consider informing appropriate departments at Iowa State in Ames, or U Nebraska Lincoln (or possibly UN Omaha - I think the med school is there, don't recall if part of the ag/vet schools are also.)
Love the pics... he is such a doll cat, and so photogenic! Think about that book/documentary, OK?

I think I'd be more concerned with the amount of troubles Tripod has had, number of exams and followups etc and not ONE vet noticed this???
And again, it could be excessive lacrimation, but if there are indeed two sets of canines (is it top or bottom?), then yes, there might be problems. One of the pics you posted with his mouth open, does not show this.
Is there any other vet who's more experienced in the area?
E's, it's polydactyl.
ETA: I see you said it was the top, so see another vet about this, this might be one reason he was slow to eat/drink etc....long shot, but possible. And of course you want to prevent future problems with this.

I tried to enlarge that pic of him yawning and it is not clear...I WISH I had my GOOD camera
The RETIRED vet would have caught it and pointed it out to me and asked me about checking them and removing like we did with Roo...he caught Roo's at his very first checkup...
I will have to think about a book one day....all my adventures with the cats and dogs....OMG....what crazy stories I could tell....but right now....I am too tired to think straight....
