Izzy has figured out how to open the freezer. I don't think she wants anything in there, but she leaps off the edge to get on the cupboards above the fridge. I have TONS of stuff on top of the fridge to try and block her from getting up there, but she's figuring out how to do it anyway. What the heck do I do?? This is the THIRD time it's happened, and ALL my meat has defrosted. I'm FURIOUS because if she causes the motor to burn out, I'm going to have to pay for it out of pocket and I don't have that kind of money. Not to mention all the food that keeps getting wasted. I JUST went grocery shopping, and there's probably $50 worth of meat that I either need to cook or throw out.
VERY BAD TRICK.
What can I do to keep her from doing this? It's an apartment; I can't install anything on the fridge door. And blocking her from getting up there doesn't work.
(She doesn't know I'm mad. She's napping peacefully in a sunbeam. Boy, if she could read my mind...)

Try a velcro fastener....sticky tape on one side, the velco part on the other....you'd take one strip with sticky side, attach to the freezer inside, then the other side of the velcro to attach to the freezer door to match (I'd use a very long strip, maybe even two). Look in Walmart or any other store for thick strips of this or heavy-duty type.

Carpet-saver under-desk plastic that has sharp-pointed little nubbins on the floor side... VERY uncomfortable for kitty feets! Can be bought lots of places - office supply stores, I think WalMart, Lowe's, Home Depot. It is hard to cut - get/borrow heavy-duty shears or hot knife - cut to fit space on top of refrig (no overlap) nubbin side up, save remainder to use as needed or sell/trade to other cat owners.. On smooth surfaces such as refrig top, use removable adhesive to hold the section in place..
Gotta say this: I myself "invented" this idea about 10 years ago... like a dummy, let a relative tell an associate who was in the catalog business about it... now you see it in pet catalogs etc. For $$$ more per peice than making your own... Just my luck lol... Anyway, it really works and does not harm the kitty (although she may think it has!)
