Pets just know...

Post by slvrwhispr »

I know I've talked here before about Izzy not being a cuddler at all, so this should be as interesting to y'all as it is to me...

Got some pretty bad news today, and I more or less had a total meltdown. Now that I've calmed down, I'm just sitting on the couch... and Izzy is curled up next to me with her paws and head on my arm. Normally if she got this close she'd jump up whenever I flinched, let alone started typing. But she's just sitting here... giving me comfort. Guess even the most independent animals still know when their owners really need them.

I'm sorry too, SW. Life gets rough sometimes, don't it? But yes, I agree... cats do this. My Q has always been that way... When he finds I am having troubled sleep, he will jump up on the bed, wake me gently with a paw on my face, then lie down beside me till I fall back to sleep.

My DD was born at North Island NAS in Coronado CA while her aircraft carrier pilot father was on a combat cruise to Korea. My mother came out to be with me but my rugged old soldier father couldn't come because he was Army and had to stay in their quarters at Ft. Carson, CO. Dad was worried about the war, his son and son-in-law, his fellow 1st Cavalry.Division. buddies who were in it, and of course, about his wife and grandson and me  He was a tough old horseman and a dog person - his fave breed was bulldogs. But an ancient cat showed up out of nowhere, came in the apartment and cuddled up by him the whole two weeks he was alone; very comforting, he said... she disappeared the day before Mother returned from San Diego, and was never seen again... apparently she went back to the folks she regularly stayed with... That was when Dad made the now-famous statement that became a family saying all my relatives and I use to this day:

"When God thinks you need a cat, God will send you a cat!"

Thanks, everyone... and thanks, E's. That story hits even closer to home... the bad news I got was that my husband is deploying again sometime after the first of the year. Twelve months in Iraq and me... I don't know what I'm going to do.

But at least I've got the cat.

slvrwhispr that is so tough... I often think of our men & women who are serving. You are both in my prayers. I have a friend in Iraq now.
I pray that your husband is protected...and for peace for you.

Sorry about the news silver. It is true cats and dogs know when their humans need them. I'm glad Izzy is there for you just when you needed the extra cuddles.

I think Willow knows I'm leaving since she's been extra clingy toward me this past week. Of course it could have to do with my being gone for a week.

A life without pets is not one I'd care to live. She's been my buddy today, too. Just hanging out nearby, a little nuzzle now and again.

{{{slvrwhispr}}} thank you to you and your dear hubby for serving our country and protecting our freedom...

I can imagine how difficult it is for you.....do you have friends there....or a group of wives to do things with while the guys are deployed.....to help keep you busy and the time go by?

You are in Texas, right?....I know someone military in Texas.....I can find out where she is....you might be close by and I can get you together...her hubby has been out twice now, I think...She is in Ft. Hood, or nearby, which I don't think is too far from you....she is a wonderful gal and might be able to get you involved in some things to keep you busy!!
