hair loss

Post by gimp463 »

I have a six month old domestic cat. I have noticed over the past few days that he has a large pink spot on his lip. Looking closer, all the hair is gone in that spot and a few other spots on his inner lip. He does have a habit of licking his lips a lot. Is it possible that he has completely licked the hair off?

Other than that, his behavior is completely normal. Playful, curious, and lazy!

Get your kitten to your vet please, he is the only one who can examine him and tell you what the fur loss is from. This could be anything from a food allergy, to ulcers, to feline acne, to mites or flea allergy dermatitis, to ingesting something he wasn't supposed to get into. It is also not normal for cats to be licking their lips frequently, this could be a sign of dehydration, to teething problems, to again, ingestion of something toxic. Have you kitten-proofed your home? Is he Indoors ONLY?

Make the vet appointment first thing in the morning, please.
