I think I get it now, and I think it depends on the subject and distance and probably moreso, settings with a particular function? If I'm understanding this correctly, I've been able to get pretty detailed (and closeup) pics with both options, although your camera is probably better equipped than mine. Sometimes it just takes alot of patience and experimenting to get that perfect closeup. Except for the moon. I have the worst time trying to get decent pics of the moon, maybe because it's so far away? :D

Photographing the moon is actually hard because it's moving! The light level is so low for cameras that it takes a long shutter time to get a good exposure, and the rotation of the earth combined with the orbit of the moon is what makes it blurry. It's so little, we don't notice it, but the cameras do!

I think I've almost perfected my settings when snapping the moon, and even experimented with my tripod, I've found the tripod actually makes it worse, go figure. And yeah, it took me awhile to get the shutter speed and light level near perfect enough to get a decent pic. What I really want is a big, orange harvest moon.

Mm... yeah. I love it when the moon is big and orange on the horizon. It's actually easier with a manual camera with film than it is with a digital camera, I think, if you use really low-light film and try a variety of exposure times. But then you have to deal with developing the film and scanning it and it's just not as convenient.

I do have a couple of really good lightning pics with this new camera, though. It has a burst feature where it keeps taking pictures as long as you hold the button down. Just sat on the porch and did that during a lightning storm and caught a couple of good bolts. It was fun. :)

The best cameras usually have a combination of digital and optical zoom.

Those are really great pics - and a very pretty kitty as your model!
