Pedigree pet food recall
There has been issued a pet food recall in California for Pedigree pet food. The recalled product, manufactured by Mars Petcare US of Franklin, Tenn., was sold in Albertsons in Southern California in 20-pound bags with Lot Code No. 830BFCAT02 and Best By Date of 07/2009 and at Costco stores statewide in 52-pound bags with Lot Code Nos. 831BFCAT02 and 830DFCAT02 and Best By Date of 07/2009. The lot code is located on the back of the bag. There have been no reports of human illness associated with this product - yet.
The department of public health in California issued the warning today. They warned consumers not to feed their pets certain bags of PEDIGREE® Complete Nutrition Small Crunchy Bites because the product may be contaminated with salmonella.
They also warned consumers to wash their hands after handling the product because the salmonella could infect them.
Pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some pets will exhibit decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Animals can be carriers with no visible symptoms and can potentially infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

KOLO 8 has learned of a recall involving Pedigree Dog Food.
Costco Stores have ordered that all 52 pound bags of Meal time Dry Dog food with certain buy dates and product codes due to possible salmanella contamination.
Citing an internal company memo, A Costco spokesman at the Reno cited the following dog food being pulled.
The recall covers 52 pound bags of Meal Time Dry Dog food with the best buy date of 7 - 2009 and the product codes: 830DFCAT02 and 831DFCAT02
We have not been able to contact the Pedigree company for more on this recall.

It appears that they have updated/expanded the recall. New info posted on the website 9/12.

Keep in mind they are two seperate incidents, with two different plant locations. The latter based on two unconfirmed human cases. Not undermining this, they did the right thing to voluntarily recall so they can re-inspect their plants.
