Re: Catching the Broken Leg Feral ~ Updated with Pictures
I sure hope so....I will be visiting him again this evening after work...then hubby will be bringing him home tomorrow...
hopefully just being back home and with us will help him feel better and eat better...
I was amazed that he was stretching and rolling like he was this morning....but then, he could have just had pain meds too and was not feeling too badly....the doctors were doing their morning spay/neuters so I only really spoke to was the assistant carrying them back to recover in kennels....and just the vet briefly when he popped in for that moment, but he really did not have time to speak then

His bed is all ready for him....we decided we do NOT want him behind the toilet area...too difficult to get back there and with the humidity, the toilet is sweating and I do not want him getting the wound wet and yucky....
Soooo....we got a garbage bag, put it back there, and filled it (lightly) with expanding foam and tied it shut (NO ODOR!)...then put the garbage can back in place...no way can he get back there now....and heck, the bathroom needs redone, so when he is better, we can lift the toilet, remove the bag and foam, and do the wall back there while the toilet is lifted....
I got a zippered SOFT waterproof pillow protector, and we have 2 X-long twin quilted mattress pads, brand new, that we were going to use for something else, and decided they would NOT work, so I folded one so it would fit into the pillow protector, with one end folded more than the other, to rest his injured shoulder if he wants to....then over top of the pillow is the soft fleecy blanket....I also have a bath pillow headrest thing that I have not used in a while, so I also have that against the wall for him if he wants to rest against that...it is like a rolled pillow....
I got a small shallow litterbox, and they have been using Yesterday's News pellets at the vet's office, so that is what I will use here as well....
tomorrow he comes home!!

Is that a spray foam? One that hardens when dry? Did you ventilate the bathroom fully? I'd be really concerned about confined fumes inside the trash bag, or even a puncture allowing fumes to escpae. Despite there not being a smell to the foam, there could still be a toxic emission.
Check the gasket seal around the base of the toilet, this is often a cause for leaks and humidity, also check the water line for leaks, loose connections. If you have a leak somewhere, the last thing you want is mold growing, which is highly toxic to pets AND you! And being confined in such a small area would make it very risky.

oh yes...bathroom is well ventilated.....the foam hardens.....we checked the bag well.....
There is no leaks....it is just so HUMID here, and with us having no A/C in the house, the difference from the cold water in the tank and the HOT weather, so the toilet "sweats"...
nooo...no leaks....well, we spring leaks on occassion in an older home, but they get repaired right away!!!

Well...he came home from the vet's today and settled right in.....here are some pictures from this evening....
Yes...we did bring Cuddles in for a few minute visit...she is our "mothering cat" and they settled right in with each other....she was like, "Oh boy, a new kitty!!" and he seemed happy to have someone to snuggle with some...of course, we did NOT leave them there together alone!!!
He DID go and lay by the toilet for a little while, along the front edge, so he did get his fur wet some...that is why it looks wet and spiky some....I did clean up and check the wound when I noticed it was wet....but realized that he was laying against the coolness of the sweating toilet (at the front of it)...but since I got him to lay on the bedding, he has been content to stay there....
half standing, half stretching, to greet me
But then he decided a belly rub might feel better!
I stopped petting him, so he gave me a glaring look
Then he decided that chirping might get my attention!
It did!
Enjoying having his head and ears rubbed
well....Cuddles decided to come check him out, and he was okay with that!
All tired out and time to fall off half off the bedding and drift off to sleep!

The last picture made me laugh. He looks pretty chilled out! Also, the surgery site looks really good. I have high hopes for this little guy; we're all so attached to this story. Bless your heart for doing all you can for him.
Re: Tripod ~ Updated with Pictures 08-09-08
I am amazed at how fast he really HAS chilled out....the place I have his bed set is an area between the sink and wall, underneath wall shelves....it is 24 inches wide, and sort of secluded....any other cat I have brought in has always been comfortable there, so hopefully he will be too, rather than behind the toilet....
The foam stuff never did set up right, even though it was supposed to get hard as a rock, so we just took that out and used large garbage bags filled with air and stuffed back there, to discourage him from trying to get behind the toilet, and so far it has worked...
I think the thing that bugs me the most to look at him, is his white is not white right now...it is yellow...stained from whatever they used to clean him for surgery and then afterwards....probably betadine, I am assuming?...I don't know....I know the yellowing will fade away in time, but right now, he just looks like he peed all over himself!!!
We have the litterbox RIGHT next to the sleeping area for now....as time goes on, and he gets more mobile and familiar with surroundings, it will be moved further away, to the other side of the sink, by the door, and completely away from where he sleeps....but we figured for this first night or two, he may not want to go too far, and the kennel he was in at the vets was probably only 36x36 or so and had a sleeping area, litterbox and food/water bowls all in there with him.....
