sedation and lack of food can definitely slow down the intestines. And, the colon is much larger and can hold more - so that, at least is true. Hope she has a bowel movement soon so you can be sure all is well.

Glad to hear she is doing better!

Thanks for the update Cleo, and for taking such excellent care of her.

The cooked chicken and rice is a good idea, and hopefully she'll hold it down, you can give this to her for a few days, as long as you continue to offer her the dry she's accustomed to. You can also try tempting her with a spoon-ful of plain yogurt if you want, most dogs love this, and it's a good disguise for medication, except for the spray. Try holding the spray under cool running water for a minute, that might help soothe those irritated tissues a bit.

I've been keeping my fingers crossed for some good news Cleo. It sounds like JoBear is getting better slowly but surely. Glad you got her to the vet...

Thankfully, she was able to eat a bit together...I hope that poop comes soon.

Please keep us updated when you can.

Took her back to the vet today. I noticed a huge gaping piece of flesh hanging off of her neck and you could see the puss oozing from it. She's now on Clavamox and Silver Betedine (sp?) ointment. It just took me/us an hour and 15 mins. to do the warm compresses and then the ointment. By the time it was over, she was ready to bite my head off. Honestly I think there were just too many people around (me, mom and nephew) because during the day, alone, I'm able to do the compresses enough without a problem. Then again, she's probably just so confused and scared and sick of being sick.

Cleo, I saw your prayer above my Buster's. I don't know you or JoBear, but I am sending all my best wishes and hopes that he does get well. I know you all love him so much.

JoBear does sound like he's been through so much, poor pooch. I'm glad that you took him to the vet. (I wish I would have taken Buster's actions more seriously and driven the 40 miles at 3:30 AM to take him to the Emergency Vet in Rapid City. That is something I'll always have to live with.) In spite of being in what you think is a safe area, there are always dangers from outside. It pays all of us to be as vigilant as we can be.

I know you've done your best to help JoBear. I pray that he will be his healthy, happy self again very soon.

Love and best wishes,

Sue (and Kids)

One day just blurred into the next since all this happened and THANKFULLY she seems to be bouncing back to her playful self. She's still not 100% but her bark is getting stronger and her neck is clearing up nicely.

She was scheduled for a surgical procedure yesterday morning but it was dependent on how the wound look. The Clavamox, warm compresses and silver betadine cream are working well because the area did not need any surgical interference and lucky for me it's no longer painful for her and I can tend to it with better ease. She bit my BIL the other night. Then again, he was stinking drunk and deserved it.

And she's pooping nicely too. Big relief there! Your prayers, well wishes and support have meant the world to us and no doubt helped JB in her healing process!

Cleo, it's such good news that JoBear is recovering! Of course, it never seems fast enough, does it?

Your BIL deserved to be bitten. My "other half" sometimes gets that way. The pets completely avoid him and I'd like to bite him!

Thanks for taking time out and letting us know that JoBear is recovering. I'll still continue to send prayers and best wishes until he is 100% his old self again.
