Please keep our JoBear in your prayers

Post by Cleo »

Last Sunday she gutted a groundhog or woodchuck. Whatever it was, it ended up in our yard and met it's fate. Sorry chuck.

My sister and BIL quickly removed it and were sure that Jo didn't eat any of it but two days ago she started acting funny. She was just at the vet last Saturday for a full check up, including blood work and all came back okay. Since then, in one week's time, she lost 3 pounds, hasn't eaten since Thursday, was crying for 24 hours straight and vomitted this morning.

I gave my sister no choice and took her to the vet this morning. They had to sedate her to even go near her (2nd time in a week) because she's very aggressive. An x-ray showed layers of some kind of foreign matter in her colon; the vet believed some plastic and bones.

We don't know if it's bones from the prey or from a rawhide bone we found in the yard. No one here in the house knows where it came from. We don't know if a neighbor tossed it over the fence to her or if someone laced it with poison and is trying to hurt her. I scoured the yard for anything plastic that might have been chewed up and found nothing.

As soon as she's able to resume eating, she's been put on a prescription diet, canned W/D I believe to bulk her up with fiber and help her move everything along. If nothing happens by Monday, she's going in for surgery.

JoBear is 7 this year and was saved at 3 months old by my BIL. Her previous owners were evicted from their apartment and left her behind. The landlord found her alone a few days after the people vacated. She's been with us since and while technically on paper belongs to my sister, we ALL take care of her.

We're all sick with worry. Thanks for any prayers you can spare our way.

Sending prayers for JoBear. I hope he is able to pass this on his own and doesn't require surgery :(

Aww, geez, Cleo, I'm sorry.....JoBear is in my thoughts and prayers, hopefully won't need surgery!! But, please, if she develops serious symptoms (crying out, painful abdomen, diarrhea or constipation, straining, blood in stool or vomit, unable to eat or hold food or water down, cannot rise or is reluctant to rise/activity, etc), don't hesitate to get her in on emergency before Monday!!

Thank you everyone! I'm sitting here in tears from your support as well as with worry.

She had a little bit of a rough night and won't eat the prescription canned food this morning but drank like a horse. Hasn't pooped yet and just wants to be inside. My sister has to work today, my BIL is supposed to be taking my nephew to the beach so mom and I are on doggie-care watch today.

Again, thank you for the prayers and healing thoughts.

Darn :(

Can you water the food down some and see if she will eat it that way?....it is good she is drinking at least.....but that is not going to help smooth things through....

I would say.....just for my own peace of mind....if she had not eaten or moved by noon.....I would take her in..but that is me....and I am a worry wart!!

Please keep us posted!!!!
