Mr. Blue got a really nice compliment on our walk....

Post by Mary Plummer »

Hello everyone,

Hope you don't mind if I boast yet again about our hound, but I can't help it :D On our evening walk, we met a man walking a dog called "Little Bit," who's part spaniel/part English pointer (?), and who is adorable. We've met the dog before, walked by the wife/girlfriend, and her and Mr. Blue get along great. This man didn't know us, though, and was kind of nervous to bring Little Bit close. I told him they'd met before, so he brought her over. Little Bit is really nervous and skittish around most dogs, I guess, but her and Mr. Blue really get along. He's very good with dogs who are skittish or afraid of other dogs; he's very gentle. They did the "play bows" to each other, and the tails were going frantically! The man said he's never seen her get along so well with any other dog, and how good Mr. Blue was. Then he said, "You know, your dog is stunning!" I was extremely pleased, and said that I of course agreed. He also commented on how gentle he is. I felt really good and proud, although, as always, I didn't have much to do with it. Well, we did, in that we gave him a loving home where his real self could come out.

Anyway, here's an old pic of our "stunning" hound dog:

That's being a real Catahoula/Hound! Don't believe I have seen this one before. Bet he caught whatever it was - or would have if you let him. :D

...is the Wicked Witch of the West, afraid he'll melt if he touches water :D We were visiting my sister and walking in a park, with them and their Lab, and the path crossed this little stream. The Lab waded happily across it; in fact it didn't want to get out. There was a narrow plank bridge for the people to cross on, but Mr. Blue didn't trust that at all. It left him no choice but to jump the stream! My brother-in-law caught it on film. We weren't aware that he had, until we got this picture in the mail a few weeks later. This was in late September of 1998, after he'd fully recovered from his heartworm treatment.

I thought not wanting to get their feet wet was a Sheltie thing - Angel won't even go out in the morning without a nudge when the grass is wet (and with our humidity, that's about 98% of the Florida mornings. Forget it when it rains. If I'd been at the stream with my dogs, I'd probably have to carry them all across the stream!
