Bear eats kleenex

Post by kehorner »

Any chance he gets, he eats it up. And he doesn't just chew on it, he actually eats it. It seems to come out the other end okay, but still...

I've had to start burying my used tissues way down at the bottom of the can. And yesterday, he figured out that those little balls originate from the box as sheets, and got into that. So now I've got to push the one that sticks up back down into the box so he can't grab it.

Is there any reason why he is doing this? He doesn't eat anything else he isn't supposed to, except for kleenex.

Maybe boredom.

But, it would be best to put the boxes away, not just tuck the tissues into the box, because he may end up eating the entire box as well, and then he would be facing surgery.

Since Bear is CD certified, it might be helpful if you ask his original trainer(s) for advice: Tissues and tissue boxes may be a situation/temptation the dog never encountered before, or hasn't had access to before - so he doesn't know this is forbidden - and thus the budding habit/behavior can perhaps be easily corrected/modified so that even when the object is available, the dog will leave it alone... Meanwhile, as Traci says, out-of-reach locations for dispensers, discards and waste baskets! :D
