Crying Kitty Behavior

Post by Mostly-Sunny »

I recently got a kitten. And she is so cute! But I think that the people that I got her from always fed her people food. Everytime I go into the kitchen she cries and cries and begs for anything and everything. She has food, so she's not hungry. When I sit down to eat she goes to great lengths to climb up to wherever I (or anyone else) is to try and get what I am eating. And she continues to cry & cry. I don't want her to do this, but I am not sure how to go about breaking the habit. I've never had a cat that acted like this before! I would never hurt her, but she's doing a good job of driving me crazy! Any suggestions that you have for me would be appreciated. Thanks!

Your kitten needs a full health exam by your vet immediately. All newly adopted cats and kittens should immediately recieve a new exam to determine general health status, de-worm, vaccinate, etc.

Not knowing what kitten food you're feeding, nor knowing whether or not she's been de-wormed, etc, it's impossible to advise further, other than an immediate vet exam. Please, don't wait on this, you need to know if she has an underlying health condition that is related to her increased appetite.

I agree that kitty and all kitties need to see a vet. But, I want to add My brothers cat always does this, she drives my crazy. She will even grab it from your mouth. Last year when I cat sat I would just put her in another room when I ate, don't think that it taught her anything, since she still does it. but, it kept me from killing her for 3 weeks :D Good luck I know how anoying it is.

CHloe does this also, so we do isolate her when we eat, and feed her at the sametime. She eats Honeybun's food (our 5 year old girl). We try to feed them together, and I caught Honey eating Chloe's food. But at least they are getting along.

In time I think things will adjust, my new kitten is 10 weeks old. She squeals to get her own way, I have firmly said no when she scratches the sofa and put her on her scratching post. She is getting better. Good luck to you. Mona, Honeybun and Chloe

Max does that too, but I just ignore him and he gives up after a while.

Just a matter of training the kitty...yes it can be done. I have a persistent begger and he knows the line he can't cross when we are eating (literally). It took a while, but time and patience worked. He still tries to cross the line at times, but just a "uh uh" stops him.
