Revolution
Revolution
Gee that Revolution looks like a good product. It protects against so many things... fleas, ear mites, worms, etc..
Re: Revolution
But, if there's no risk, and no evidence of fleas etc in your home, it's a bit overkill. I'd recommend it for cats who truly need flea control, heartworm prevention etc, but where your kitty is indoors, it may not be necessary.

Re: Revolution
we use Revolution at the shelter and it works great on ear mites.
Re: Revolution
Is Revelution applied topically, like Advantage and Frontline? Or is there an injection? And how about comparative cost? The vet I am replacing said something one time about ninety some odd for my cats, but I was so upset about Pinto I didn't pay attention. Do remember having the impression this woman didn't seem to think heartworm protection was very important, even though my apartment opens on the "outdoors" and we do have mosquitoes...

Re: Revolution
Dot - it is topical like the others. I think it is about $15/ mo.
Re: Revolution
Yes, its a topical.
Anyone who lives in the south, or warm, humid areas, or near large bodies of water, or irrigates their lawn, etc, is at higher risk for mosquitoes, thus higher risk to pets.

Re: Revolution
I also use Revolution for my Baxter as I just moved to a place that is pretty far back in the boonies and has underground streams in the area that keep certain parts of the property fairly soggy all year round. Is Revolution really the only med I need to keep Bax on as he is a strictly indoor cat? I mean do I need anything else for monthly application? I have my puppy on advantix for fleas ticks and interceptor for the heartworm but I'm pretty certain that the Revolution is all all in one med.

Re: Revolution
Revolution for cats is for fleas, heartworm preventative, hookworms and roundworms....yes, this should be all you need.
Word of caution, when using Advantix on your puppy, don't let Baxter anywhere near the product, nor the puppy , until puppy's fur has dried completely...and don't let him lick your pup when this is applied! Advantix contains permethrin, which is lethal to cats.

Re: Revolution
Thank you for the heads up as I was not aware of that! We have 2 seperate vets for the cat and dog so they are not really aware of the other animals in the house apparently. I definately keep an eye on her next time I give the meds to make sure her and Baxter both stay away from the application spot. Is there any type of lapse time on the heartworm preventative in Revolution? Somehow the place I ordered it from could not get a hold of the vet to check the Rx so its not being shipped now until they get a response (who knows when that could be).. I am going to pickup a single dose tomorrow from the vet on my way home but its already a bit overdue as I did not realize I was out of doses for him during all the hectic days of me moving until it was already too late.

Re: Revolution
Mike, please don't order pet products online. You cannot ever gaurantee them. Period. And, to my knowledge, Pfizer (as well as Bayer, Merial, etc) do not legitimately supply this to venders other than vets. If the online order place has a licensed vet/pharmacist overseeing prescriptions, that might be a different story, and that person may have legitimately obtained the product from the manufacturer, but most online "pet pharmacies" do NOT.
BUT, if you get such products other than through your vet, if a reaction or anything else occured, you would not have recourse, more than likely no recovering of expense or vet bills, and the manufacturer won't gauratee the product. You also don't know the expiration dates, you don't know if handling and shipping were up to standard, nor if they are counterfiet products when bought online or other than your vet. Think about it, you can probably save just as much time, and money, getting this directly from your vet, where the product will be gauranteed.
As for the time between doses, the product should be given every month. If you miss the monthly doseage by a few days to a week, give the next dose right away, as long as 30 days has passed from the last dose, and mark your calendar with that starting date for the next month. The product is worthless for heartworm prevention if you don't give this on a monthly basis!
