SCORE! I trapped Mr. Orange and he is now in my bathroom

Post by Auntie Debbie »

I put the trap out yesterday and he spent the afternoon lying next to it. I got home tonight and he was lurking about so I put the trap out again and by that time he was gone. So I proceeded with putting up the bird feeders. I went back inside to get the feed and when I came out he was in it.
I brought him in and he's not too happy but not enitrely freaking out either, I've been able to pet him mwith the back scratcher and he seems to like that. I petted him with my hand while he was chowing down (definitely not shy with food) and he didn't mind much, but I'm not comfortable with him enough right now to trust him to not scratch. He's filthy and desperately needs a date with some water. He also has a hematoma or just some swelling on his outer ear with a scratch. I don't think he got it from thrashing in the trap since it is a bit swollen. That would take some time. I left a message with the rescue group. Only problem is that I'm having some serious work done on my car and I don't know when I will get it back. It goes in on Wednesday. I told them for now try for Friday or anytime next week except for Monday which is my really busy day.
I also told the woman above me that he is just temporary. He will either be fixed and put back out if he doesn't seem a good candidate for being a house cat, or he will be b rought up to petco each weekend until he does find a home. She said that shouldn't be a problem for her and not to worry.
He's a character and I'll bet he could be a good house cat if given a good chance. Wish me luck withh him!

Woo-hoo, I knew you'd catch him for his neuter, but try to get the ear examined too, ok? From all you've said about him, it sounds like he would be a great adoptable boy, thanks for being so patient and determined for him!

Oh yeah, I will be asking for the ear to be looked at, as if you could miss it! I'm also hoping maybe once the neuter is done while he's still groggy, a bath might be in order as well. Right now he's being quiet...hope he doesn't start yowling in the middle of the night!

He probably feels pretty safe, even if it's a bit stressful. He's known you for awhile now, and obviously found you out and trusted you....just give him time, I'm just so glad you caught him! He's a beautiful boy, he reminds me of Roo, and of Charlie too (my angel boy, who also was while not truly feral, abandoned with his brother when very young to roam the streets).

I just checked on him. He's doing okay...started hissing at me when I went in but then started whining. I pet him again with the back scratcher and talked to him a bit. Poor guy, he does seem scared and apprehensive. I remember how hissy Missy was at first and now she's fungus. I hope he'll get into being inside soon! Thanks for the encouragement. :)

he has such a poignant face...so regal and well....like he knows who he is, that's for sure!!

Way To Go on catching him....and WOW...the lady upstairs is fine with him being there?!?!

Prayers a forever indoor only home can be found for him....

BTW...my vet bill will be paid OFF in June and I will begin fervently doing some TNR again....I hope....unless one of my own gets another owie or illness....and I hope not!!

We have a female, maybe 2 years old, and she is starting to show....*sighs*....and I do not believe in abortion....even for cats and dogs...so she will have them, we will see who survives...last year none of her litter did, but I had not the funds to spay her at that time....
besides, she has earned my trust and I can pet her, so she will be easy to pick up and crate to take in....along with whatever kittens she has when they are old enough, if I can tame them....

We have 3 toms that hang around...and I want to get them all neutered as well....

and then any others who wander near enough onto my property will be caught and taken in for spay/neuter/ deworming and anything else they can do short term like this....

Of course....the cost is all on my own shoulders, and I will be losing $400 child support come June...so that will hurt....

He does have a poignant face like Tambrey says...kinda sad, and saying - I wish I had a home and someone to love me. I bet he was hungry...that is so good that you are helping him. Hope all goes well with him.

Tambrey, is there any way you can catch and bring in the soon to be mama cat now, before she has the kittens. This way they will be born into a home and used to the environment. At 8 weeks they should be very easy to get adopted. Hopefully by that time, after mama has stopped nursing and the kittens are gone, you will find some funds to have her spayed. Any rescue groups out there that will let you latch onto their discount with the vets? I hope for the best!

MomPaws, he usually does look like that, sad, sometimes forlorn. I'm hoping I can turn him into a happy cat. I wish I knew his story. It's like he's trying to tell me with all his talking and whining. Just wish he could speak thekings English!
Kitty kisses,
Debbie
