Dog in hot traffic
Todaay we were stuck in a traffic jam going out of Phoenix in 111degree temperatures for over an hour and some people had ther dog in the back of their pick up truck. The poor thing was panting and his eyes were all glassed over. He really seemed to be suffering. How could anyone do that to a dog?

being irresponsible and misinformed is easy...i'm sure we all see this sort of thing often, owners doing things without thinking much of it.Magnum's Mom wrote:He really seemed to be suffering. How could anyone do that to a dog?
which reminds me of something....a local vet clinic ran a commercial trying to remind owners to keep their dogs from holding thier heads out of windows while driving. seem to remember something about ear damage from the wind. seems plausible.
Re: Dog in hot traffic
Had I been anywhere near the owner, and had a cell with me, he'd be in big trouble. MM, if you see that ever again, and are in the position to intervene, at least warn the jerk owner that heatstroke is deadly and can be fatal in a matter of minutes, then advise water and shade immediately.....or to an ER vet pronto should the pet be lethargic or in shock.
Jason, you're right....also, grass seeds are a potential problem to a dog's ear, left undetected and festering, it can cause a severe infection (not to mention excrutiating pain)

Davet's subject line read...just for the record, i found more eye damage from head-out-the-window dogs.... knowing this, he undoubtedly has seen dry eyes, foreign embedded bodies, and etc.
