First of all, I am NOT giving my dog a rawhide chew again. I made sure I got one from a reputable company that was properly processed and my toy poodle was having such fun. After I noticed she had finished off one end in relatively short time I took it away from her. That was 3 days ago. This morning I noticed she was kind of wheezing and when I got home she still was. Any connection? Do you think she will be ok? She's eating and drinking although not as much as usual. If she is bloated if it's not too severe will it go on it's own?
Thanks in advance.
rawhide chews
If you even suspect bloat, you need to get your dog to the vet immediately...bloat does not go away on its own and is VERY uncomfortable, let alone life threatening....

Re: rawhide chews
May or may not be any connection, if you think something is not right with your dog, sudden symptoms, etc, don't post on a forum, get her to an ER vet IMMEDIATELY!!

Re: rawhide chews
just an opinio but I think these rawhide things should go back the the original animal...never ever fed to a pet...too much, far to much chance of them lodging in the trachea at which time you have about 5 minutes to get the pet to a vet and have it removed...been there, done that
Re: rawhide chews
I agree wholeheartedly with you Davet. Plus owners don't always supervise when these are given to the dog.

Re: rawhide chews
we don't give rawhides either, for that exact reason.....we USED to, and we were fortnuate to never have a problem, but it is not worth the risk, knowing NOW what they are...
We did find these neat little meal sticks that we will give Sammie to chew on, and he loves them, and they last him most of the day...along with his regular kibble, of course...

We give Sammie one of the Toy Dog sticks a day....we do NOT do this as hie entire source of food, even though the bag says it could be....HE sees them more of a chew toy than food...

Re: rawhide chews
I always advised clients to give their dog these hard calcified shank bones...un less they were old and had bad tteeth..they can chew on them for days and all they do is make noise and keep the pet happy
